I know there was a post already created for this, but it didn't seem to have any kind of conclusion and the posts were quite old...
So I want to suggest the creation of either a book club or writers group here in Nuremberg and we can kick it off October 17th (tentative for what works with people) with a Bookswap and Coffee meeting. So bring one or two (or more!) books (in English naturally) that you are willing to trade with someone else and we can chat over coffee and get to know each other and discuss what we want to do as a group.
I was thinking October 17th, 11am at Thalia Bookstore in Nuremberg, near the cafe (I believe its on the 3rd floor).
What do you guys think?
Any suggestions of a better place or time to meet would be welcome!

Did this happen? I'm in. More interested in the writers club. I love to read, but my reading tends to be very eclectic and I don't usually enjoy fiction. I'm probably too much of a book snob to enjoy a book someone else suggests most of the time.
I just finished this, and loved it. http://www.dishwasherpete.com/ Very low-brow and enthralling.
Another fantastic book: http://www.amazon.com/Running-After-Antelope-Scott-Carrier/dp/1582431116
Then there is all the philosophy, psychology, sociology that I read, but I wont bore you with that, unless you give permission in advance.
The location you suggested is perfect for me.... throw another date out, lets try to get some others interested. Might I suggest the 25th of Oct (Sunday) in the evening? 6pm? 7pm? 730pm? Sunday evenings are always open for me... but my weekends are often full. But a weekday evening would be fine as well. Tuesdays or Wednesdays are good on my end.
Thanks for starting this... hope it comes to fruition.

Hey
I infomed D already about my schedules. I am absent until 1.11, am leaving this Thursday. So after that I'll be more than willing to participate.
That piece I can of course make earlier. Have already started a bit!

I'm certainly game, but you may want to check with the Thalia people beforehand to make sure they are OK with people coming in with (used) books, and leaving with them in their backpacks, etc. I love Thalia, and its central location can't be beat, but there are a number of decent coffeehouses or even English-speaking pubs in town which are not attached to bookstores that may be a bit more relaxed about this sort of thing and won't have inattentive employees accusing you of theft as you leave-- just saying.

Hey Everyone,
Glad to see some responses in the post ... We did indeed have our first meeting, however, we are shooting to have our second meeting for this Writer's Group on November 5th (that's a Thursday) at 6pm at the Theo Door Bar (Theodorstrasse 1-- just off Prinzregentufer (Ubahn station is Worhder Wiesse) ). For the second meeting, we would like to have everyone bring a short passage, one or two paragraphs that you really enjoy--something you think is good writing... in addition, if you would like to, you can email me a piece of original work, either a part of a longer story or a short story, completed or not, fiction or non-fiction, to recieve comments from the members of the group. Private Message me and we can exchange info.
Also, it would be great if you could let me know if you intend on coming... So far our humble group is two members, with a couple people who were unable to attend last time but are interested. Hopefully we can get a good group going here.
Contact me if you have any quetsions.
See you all on the 5th,
Diana

A bookswap-style Stammtisch or writer's group sounds great. You can count me in. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of fiction to contribute, but can share a modest collection of non-fiction, philosophy, and Italian literature. I was out of town for the last meeting, but am very interested in stopping by in the future.
As I'm in Neumarkt often it shouldn't be too much trouble to get to Nürnberg, but if there's anyone else in Regensburg who's interested in a such concept here as well, I'd be happy to help organize something.

i'll be moving to nuremberg in mid december. would love to join in on a writer's group. what kind of writing do you all do? i've been working on a novel for some time now. would be fun to meet up with other english-language writers. also, i don't know anyone in nuremberg yet, so it might be a good opportunity.
