Living in Hadern (more specifically Großhadern) - Munich

Seeking some information about the neighbourhood

Hi guys

I am coming from the UK and will be moving to Großhadern in a few months, and I have had difficulty finding much information about the area. Is there anything you could tell me, any opinions you may have about the place?

Many thanks!

Grosshadern seems like a quiet suburb to me, its not far from town on the subway though.

it seems nice enough, its not far from me, but I don't go there that often.

If you're living anywhere near a U-bahn station, it's not bad really.

Large, quiet, family oriented suburb. There's a forest on the doorstep, a large hospital and a couple of decent beergardens. Not very lively, but should be fine as long as you don't live on the busy main roads (Waldwiesenstraße/Sauerbruchstrasse or Würmtalstrasse).

its the last stop on the U6 so its quite a distance from anywhere central (not in distance but in reality) It primarily exists becuase of the colossal hospital there, and many businesses are now close buy to service the Pharma Industry. It's not the best of areas if you are looking for a predominantly middle class well educated profile. Suggest you try and move either closer of further to somewhere like Graefling which is also quiet but more upmarket.

NOTE: This is only my personal opinion so can all the whingy dramatic moaners on this website please not start a tirade of ranting after this post - go and whine about the Germans lack of English or something else you dislike about the country (that you have chosen to ive in)

I just moved to Großhadern (literally, yesterday) and it seems nice. Very green, pretty quiet, lots of families, a couple of decent cheap supermarkets (and plenty of others nearby on the U-Bahn). It's not too far from the centre by U-Bahn either. There are quite a few students, of which I'm one, so hopefully you don't mind that. I have no complaints so far, anyway.

I am new in grosshadern like you...
and are there any small pub here where people can chat and meet??

To be honest I have no idea! I haven't found one yet... I usually just go into the centre. Let me know if you have any luck though.

I moved to Grosshadern 4 weeks ago.

Shopping
I've found the wood close and it takes you to a Bio Markt in Grafelfing if you like organic food. Tad pricey, but a nice cycle ride away. It's 19 minutes to Marienplatz on the U6 and another 40 minutes on the S8 to the airport. There is an Aldi, Tenglemann, Vinsenmuir nearer to the Klinikim LMU by Martinsreaid, plus an OBI which is like B&Q.

I've found a couple of sports facilities.
http://www.sportzentrum-martinsried.de/ costs around 65 E per month for 12 months.
http://de.fitness.com/fitnesscenter/10509/M%C3%BCnchen/top-fit_im_tsv_grosshadern.php Which is much cheaper and the equipment and the equipment isn't as new.

There is a great biergarten and restaurant on Heiglhofstrasse. Just close by to it is an Eis Cafe that is open on Sundays (not much is open on Sundays), and it is always full with customers. They make their own cakes.

I have lived in Grosshadern for almost 6 years and I love living there. It is nice to have the forest right at my doorstep and the city is only a 20 minute ubahn ride away. As mentioned before, there are a few Biergartens near by. The one I enjoy going to is Waldheim.
I know someone said said something shopping before, but here it is again
- Near the Klinikum Grosshadern Ubahn station there is a Penny and a Rewe.
- There is a Tengelmann and a Plus close to the Grosshadern station and an Aldi is not far away as well.
- Close to the Haderner Stern Ubahn there is an Edeka (they have a good selection of food), an Asian Food Market and a fruits and vegetable stand.

Grosshadern can be a nice and quiet place. Of course, depending on where you live, you may have a helicopter fly over going to the hospital. Sauerbruchstrasse can get busy during the day but is pretty quiet at night. The Ubahn connection is good... the Ubahn runs every 5 minutes during the work hour rush (mornings M-F & evenings M-T) and otherwise runs every 10 minutes for most of the day.
