Hi there,

Just wondering how I would get to Bad Tolz on public transport and any recommendations on what to do there would be greatly appreciated! Planning on going tomorrow...

Cheers

Is reachable on the BOB (Bayerische Oberland Bahn). Leaves from / tickets can be bought in the Hauptbahnhof. Takes about an hour. The town itself is pretty manageable, have a bummel around the altstadt and climb the Kalvarienberg (great view along the isartal)

check out that thread: Bank holiday TT trip (via train to Bad Tölz)

Wouldn't go near Bad Tölz with that sort of crime rate. Dropping like flies one a week during the season! tongue.gif

Drive onwards to Lenggries and take the Seilbahn up to the summit of Brauneck. Still some snow on the top I think.

was in bad tölz yesterday and wasn't very impressed. granted, it was 4°, but aside from walking along the isar, what is there to do? perhaps it would be better in summer. we were on tegernsee and had a nice drive to bad tölz. bf & i had a great hot chocolate at this italian-like cafe right across the street from the bus station. that was good.

I went last summer with Foxy and her family - it's quite nice in the summer, and great ice cream, though it sounds a bit chilly for that at the moment...FACT OF THE DAY: There also used to be a big SS Officer Training barracks round there somewhere.

I agree with some others that it might not be the best time of year for Bad Tölz at the moment. However, they have the best Christmas market I've been to.

If you like chocolate or coffee/tea, or if you're gift-shopping, there's a great little shop just across the bridge from the downtown with lots of tempting treats. I don't remember the name of it, but if you just cross the bridge, it's right across the street that runs along the Isar.

Cold? - some of the outdoor pools are kept at 30degs (celsius) - almost as warm as body temperature. I've floated in them with outside air temperatures below -20degs and snow falling...

there's nothing to do there besides the indoor waterpark, which is quite nice...though I've only been there mid-winter, I bet it's even better now that it's not FUCKING FREEZING. ...so yeah. The town, well...we walked around a bit, but there is nothing to see or do...and I do ALL the tourist shit, daily tongue.gif

Sheesh guys, it ain't that bad. I live nearby in Sachsenkam and am in Bad Tölz often. There are several mountains in the vicinity that you can go up, lots of shopping along Marktstrasse and it's a nice picturesque little town. There are 2 water parks, one indoor and one outdoor. All kinds of bars and restaurants as well. It is much nicer during warmer weather as previously mentioned. As Jimbo mentioned further up, there was a large military facility there, der Flintkaserne: http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Quarters...intkaserne.html

It was converted to a U.S. Army installation after the war and Patton spent alot of time there. In fact, it is named after his best friend. Patton was very fond of the base and said he thought it was the best layed-out military installation he had ever seen. Since the conversion to government offices and shopping center, it hardly resembles it's original form.
