Hi
Sorry I know I've got "newbie" written all over me here, but it's got to be done I'm afraid...
First time for us going to Oktoberfest, have accommodation and flights sorted, begging to tickets to tents elsewhere on this site.
We've a guy with us, who suffers from Celiac Disease, bascially it means he can't consume Gluteen or Wheat products etc, so he cannot drink beer. He does however try to make up for it with pints of cider, any spirits he can get his hand on etc.
Just wondering, has anyone here gone through a similar situation at Oktoberfest and found:
A) perhaps a tent that sells cider?
B) dare I suggest, a Gluteen free beer?
C) a selection of spirits for sale at the Oktoberfest, he's not great with Schnaps but most others he'll drink no problem.
Many thanks for any assistance you guys can offer.
Regards
Garrett

You will only find Gluten Free beer in special shops here - it is nasty and very expensive, plus, you can not take any drinks AT ALL into the tents. They do not have cider on the grounds either.
There really is only 1 alcohol option - that would be wine or wine spritzer (half white wine, half water. Some tents also have Spetzi (a mix of coke and fanta) but none that I know of have only cola. Some have apple spritzer (half apple juice/half water).
Be aware that there are a few tents that ONLY sell beer (not sure which) and have no other option other than water (which again is almost 8€ per liter).
And yes - being a celiac and being at Oktoberfest is NOT as much fun - but you can have a good time.
Expect to pay the same price for the soda and even more for the weinschorle (€5.50 per .5l)
The 1/2 chicken is also ok (no flour used for cooking) in as tents as far as food.

Actually last Saturday i was at the Gluten free October festival in Aschheim. They have it every year but its only for one day and you cannot compare it with the real thing.Try www.glutano.com and you will get the store finder on there for where goods can be bought in and around Germany

A friend of mine helps organise the gluten-free October festival each year - if you want to PM me, I can put you in touch with her and she´ll tell you all about the celiac group´s meetings in München, etc.........
