Nicky, perhaps it would be a good idea to make the final reservation for about two more people than actually say they're coming. In my experience, there's always a few people who decide to "pop on by," and it's probably a bit better to have two empty chairs than to spill over where we haven't reserved the space.
Of course, if they don't have the room for us to do that, they don't have the room, but I suppose it couldn't hurt to ask.

I would like to tag along provided there is enough space.
Nicky
Apr 17 2005, 8:21 pm
In my experience there are people who "pop by" and also people who do not turn up and they usually cancel each other out. But, ok, I'll call again maybe Tues and reserve a couple of extra places if poss. But then I think that has to be final - I can't call the restaurant every evening and change the number.

Apr 18 2005, 2:22 pm
Nicky, Myself + 1 other wud like to join in as well even at this late stage - we're happy to pop along and if there's still space great if not, no probs we can meet up later at another bar ?
Nicky
Apr 18 2005, 3:27 pm
OK everybody, I will call the restaurant tomorrow night and see if we can have more places - but after that I think we have to call it a day with changes - otherwise the restaurant will get fed up with me! I will post the final number tomorrow evening and from then on any newcomers should simply call the restaurant and book their own table. Agreed?

@Austin2Munich - I haven't forgotten anybody. But I could go nuts checking this thread and calling the restaurant everyday. I promise, promise I will do a final count tomorrow evening and call the restaurant. Then I will post the number plus list, first come, first served. Anyone who is left out (hopefully no-one, but remember Juleps is quite small) can then try phoning the restaurant themselves and booking a table. We can then shout to each other across the room. OK? Wow, I think even I need a drink after all this ... (and I can just about walk to Juleps ...

I just thought I'd help you out, Nicky. The last list plus add-ons comes to:
Blimeygirl, Tom17, petal, butterbean, Oli2000, jml + 1(?), Kat, IPJ and husband, BadDoggie, Katrina, brokenm, KebabMeister, davo, Ski, Shaggy(?), madgibson, urbanangel, anemone, SUB, 32D, Contemplation, Darkknight(?), karambos, studentoflife, Heffo + 1, roots(?), Austin2Munich + 1 and Nicky.
So, if everyone makes it including the unsures, that's 32 people. Whew! Hope that's not a problem with the restaurant.
Blimeygirl
Apr 18 2005, 11:05 pm
Yeah it's very small...sadly I suspect that not everyone is going to make it this time around. First come first served is fair enough.
Don't sweat it Nicky...you are doing a superb job...I think anyone who wants to be added at this point should be on their own for the res.
Very much looking forward to dinner...and the pre-dinner cocktail hour(s)

Last phone-call to Juleps:
We have three tables (called "Tafel") reserved for us in the middle of the restaurant for thirty people.
Juleps, Breisacher Str. 18, 7.30 pm
Please, please be punctual - if you are late there is a chance that we cannot keep all the places. I told the restaurant manager we would be there by the latest at 8 pm.
The question marks jml plus one, shaggy and darkknight will have to sort it out amongs themselves or sit on each other laps.
If anyone else wishes to join us then please simply call Juleps and reserve your own table under your own name - we can always move together somehow on the night, I'm sure.
Task accomplished - and many, many thanks to IPJ for counting for me. I did a second count and came to the same number. Look forward to seeing everyone there.
To those who want to meet up beforehand you would be doing me a great favour if you simply had a few cocktails at Juleps - happy hour 5 - 8 pm according to website. Then you could keep an eye on our tables

Splendid night out, superb company, thanks Nicky for organizing. Great fun, also chilling at Haidhauser Augustiner
On a slightly different note: It's apparently becoming a bit of a habit for TT individuals to leave w/out settling their bill. I've read about this in the Curry Night thread (I refuse to go to
curry night anymore however for totally different reasons).
I was the "idiot" who was last to leave Juleps, and the waiters sincerely insisted there was an unpaid burger, a lager and a cappuccino on top of my bill. Of course I could have said "your problem", but I think TT should leave a positive impression when they collectively turn up at a place, so I paid for the total.
Not that I really give a shit about the money – it wasn't that much. But it's the principle. According to the waiters, the unpaid amount (a beef burger, a cappuccino and a lager) was had by a person on the last table of our three (i.e. table nearest the exit).
Will the person who apparently forgot to pay either please come forward here or PM me. I myself had just 1 beef burger and five Weißbier.

What a bummer oli! None of those were mine but if no one comes forward then I'd be willing to chip in and cover the cost.
Urban Angel, Katrina and I made sure to write everything down on a bit of paper to make sure that everything we ordered was covered. Katrina and I ended up going halves on someone who forgot to pay for a Long Island Ice Tea.
I'm still gutted that UA forgot the creme eggs!!!

Apr 24 2005, 10:14 am
Yes, I was on that table. I arrived late and didn't see anyone eating a burger. I had quesada and wine and I paid! Contemplation was sitting opposite and she had a salad. Two guys beside me had a salad and a chicken quesada. The table, apart from me, shared a bottle of Merlot (no beer as far as I can remember). Could the waiter have got it wrong and forgotten to tick the stuff off? We also had similar problems at Swagat on Christmas Eve and now I refuse to go there. Before suspecting Toytowners I would be more inclined to suspect the waiters. It's a badly paid job and with such a big crowd an easy way to pick a bit of extra cash - just don't cross something off when it's paid and ask for the money. When I was out with a class recently one student insisted on separate bills for everyone - now I know why. Maybe he was right - though he was a bonkers mean German at the time!
The only solution I can see in future is to insist on one bill per table, which they probably do anyway, and for everyone to pay at the same time on each table, i.e. the table can't disperse until everyone has paid.
It was a great turnout. However, I did notice that the over 30's meal has become a place to eat before going on to something else rather than an event in itself, which it was the first couple of evenings. I myself prefer a smaller group on one table which spends the evening together, drinks afterwards of course, rather than reserving a table for people who only want a meal before some other activity. Can I have some other comments??? It also struck me last night that a real party would be fun, i.e. not in a pub. Anyone agree?

Thanks again Nicky for organising it. I really hope the operation goes ok on your cat

There's a pic of my cat in my profile, so I sympathise because I can't imagine how I'd feel.
It was nice meeting new faces and seeing 'old' ones again

Sorry karambos, you're a chamelon I think, different hairdo every time really fucks with my visual memory of you!
@KM .. sorry for forgetting the creme eggs. I am really not sure if I can last out till the NNO on Tuesday, they look so tempting!
@Oli - wasn't me either, but am willing to split it however many ways with the others who offered. Am trying to think who was on that table, but don't want to start pointing fingers

Actually can't imagine any of them doing it, so the waiter must've got confused.

One idea would be to settle up the bill before people start moving tables. Once I saw that people were moving around, we called the waiter and Tom and I settled up. We knew what we had but in this case so did the waiter...he was actually good with settling up for us...and didn't even charge Tom for the extra fajita cheese (which we had been charged in the past).
I am not sure what happened with the extra burger or what not...but I know the bill our waiter was working off of did not look like the one Oli posted. When Tom and I paid up the waiter just crossed off what we had and I assumed that he would just use the same bill (it was a really long one and it looked like it included everyone at our table) and do the same for everyone. Seems a bit weird that an entirely separate bill got printed for Oli's stuff and extra food so I also suspect waitstaff error rather than someone forgetting to pay. I can't imagine someone forgetting to pay for their main course?! A drink or two maybe...but a whole plate of food?!
Nevertheless it sucks when someone gets saddled with another person's meal and drink bill. I don't see why we can't just have separate bills for everyone (or per couple). Most restaurants in Munich don't seem to have a problem doing that. One big bill just always seems to lead to problems these days. It can get complicated when tables start sharing bottles of wine and stuff though.
Food was good...I personally like the food there. Service was lackluster but in fairness we were a big group and actually our food was brought fairly quickly. Drinks were another problem altogether
I prefer smaller, quieter events as well...for a dinner gathering. Being split at all different tables makes it hard to talk to people. Did get to know some people better which is nice

Had a bad headache so did not manage to get out afterwards but hope everyone had a good time wherever they went.
Somewhere down the road (since we just did Haidhausen) I propose a dinner at Lisboa Bar (Portuguese). It is actually around the corner from Juleps. The one time we went there I was very impressed with the food and the service was pretty good too.

Yes I know, he showed me the big bill - he printed out a separate one for me b/c I paid w/ my Visa card.
If settling the bill is such a problem, let's introduce a rule that everybody keeps written track of what they're having on their tab. Simple enough. Surely it can't be that difficult for everybody to pay for what they had.
In this case though, the waiters were telling me that this person left without paying anything at all. In fact they couldn't believe he simply left. The only description they gave was that it was a guy that ate at the aforementioned table then moved around quite a bit.

Typically, I don't mind larger groups - the more the merrier

But it does put stress on the restaurant - preparing/serving food for 30+ people simultaneously. Explains why I had to wait 35mins for my 2nd Weißbier.
What do you mean w/ real party? Like in someones house, or we rent a place? Certainly would be fun, but obviously requires more organizing than going to a restaurant.
