OK, so we have a car, live in Cologne, and can get to either airport. The thing is the timing of the flights is a bit better in Frankfurt Hahn, although it is farther away. In your experience, which is easier to get to traffic-wise, etc.?
Also, it is a fairly long flight and the posts are not very positive for Ryanair, but it was the only direct flight we could find from here for over the holidays to Marrakesh (and that was reasonably affordable). Anyone know of any other options to Marrakesh? I have tried all kinds of searches and other cities, but no luck.
THANKS!

Why not Köln/Bonn airport?
Ok not direct but still got to be closer? Though probably not exactly cheap
Still if you want to do one of the original two I can only talk about RAF Laarbruch (Weeze).
Pretty easy to get to - A57 junction 4 and then about 15 mins ish on the B roads and I have never had a problem but the A57 can get a bit nasty depending on the time you need to drive up it.
I have heard horror stories about getting to Hahn.

Hi -- thanks for info -- will prob. stick with Weeze, then.
Köln-Bonn Airport would be great but not even connecting flights to marrakesh (actually no direct flights there from anywhere at all except Spain, England and France, it seems). You have to fly from Dusseldorf, mostly prices are horrific, layovers terrible....
And I thought we were supposed to be living in a cheap flight hub, but when it comes down to actually finding something it is not easy at all... :-(

Yeah Weeze is no prob to get to by car. Can get there easily by train aswell if you want to save on car park fees.

By Bahn.de, I've noticed it's 5€ cheaper to go to Hahn from Bonn and half an hour shorter - but it looks like Weeze is the better option from Cologne, according to Bahn.de.
In either case, I am leaving from Weeze on a trip to Dublin and then doing Scotland to Hahn to get back to Germany because of the way it all worked out, so I'll see how they both are soon.

There isn't a train station at Hahn. How are Bahn.de planning on getting you there?

Okay, for the record, Hahn totally blows, and not just for their bad Schnitzel mit Brötchen. You have to wait for the bus, which could be up to a couple hours. I'm glad I checked the bus schedule at the station because the schedule posted at the airport was WRONG.
If you're going from anywhere closer to Weeze than Bonn, definitely go for Weeze. I live in Bonn and definitely will never go to Hahn ever again, unless that's the only flight option. It's cheaper and faster and more convenient to go to Weeze.

There is no such thing as a cheap german airline, despite all the criticsim about Ryanair they are still the cheapest around if you book in advance...Just follow their rules...
