Ahem. Anyone want an opinion on Chinese people's favourite Chinese restaurants?

[size=1]Topic split by admin from: Indian restaurants

The best Chinese restaurant I had been to in Munich area is in Starnberg. Itz been a while but I think the name is Mandarin. Munich central I haven't had a chance to try any good Chinese restaurants other than a couple of fast food places like Little Chinese and Happy food.

I went to Man Fat a while back, and didn't think it was toooo bad. I'm not Chinese though

When I lived in San Francisco and would eat in Chinatown, most of the Chinese I saw in the restaurants were never eating stuff that was on the menu anyway.

@ Why8 - I doubt you can handle the real chinese food anyways. It is very different from what we see in the restaurants..so I think the topic of the thread should be Non CHinese People's favorite Chinese restaurant. I have not found a decent chinese place in Munich, but I have not looked too much. Wouldn't mind having a General tso's or Kung Pao chicken . But I think General Tso's chicken only exists in the US anyways.

Not true my friend, there are actually several very authentic Chinese restaurants in and around Munich. My favorite is in Wortelstetten, but that is a bit far to drive.
Very near the Hofbraühaus is a favorite amongst the Chinese population here abouts. All my students that were Chinese raved about this place. Can't remember the name, but if you go down there, it will be the one full of Chinese people and the occassional anglo. If you want to get in there, make reservations!

Jade and Canton are always the names that come up by the Chinese foodies. By the latter I mean either serious cooks, serious eaters or just the occasional peeps with the serious case of yellow feva.

The place Eurovol mentions is on my list of places to go. Theres also a few new places, including a Singaporean kitchen thats supposedly popped up somewhere near the Hilton.

We always go to Kam Yi. You have to take the S-Bahn to Rosenheimer Platz. Close to there (direction philharmonic society) on the left of the Rosenheimer Str. you'll find a shopping center called Motorama City(or something like that). The restaurant is situated on the left of the entrance to the shopping center. It's always packed with Chinese (or other asiatics). The food is very good! Damn, I'm hungry again..

Is there a Chinese restaurant in Munich that does Aromatic Duck (with pancakes, Hoisin sauce, etc.) as you mainly see in the UK? I have not come across one yet that does it.

Jade. Michaelibad U-Bahn stop, it rocks. That will set you back a bit in Munich though, and worth calling ahead to pre-order if you want it marinated properly.

Someone nominated "Wok Man" in the Leopoldstrasse??
Crispy fried dog, more like.

Going off at a slight tangent, there is a friendly and well-stocked Chinese supermarket just off Münchner Freiheit (Kaiserstrasse). There's also a great Indian supermarket on the Frankfurter ring (Riesenfeldstr) in the north of Munich. They have absolutely everything you could ever want, in big bags, cheap. The man on the counter when I was there also turned out to be an ex-Birmingham City player.

My fav for duck is China Paradies on Dachauerstr, one tram stop past the Goethe Institute... oh, craving!

I'm half-Chinese and know plenty of Chinese in Munich. The one that most like best is Jade next to Michaelibad U-Bahn. I quite like Kam Yi at Rosenheimer Platz as well. Although I don't think the staff are Chinese, it has the proper feel of a Chinese restaurant.

The main thing about both places is that they offer dim sum. Not many places do. I really miss the great dim sum in London Chinatown. When I first arrived in Munich I tried it at Mangostin. It was truly awful and expensive to boot.

No Mic, they are Thai. The cook's got to be Chinese though, normally Thai cooking is very different to this. Yes, the Dim Sum are delicious! Don't know Jade.. yet.

@ashu - I am of Chinese descent, so I think I can handle Chinese food pretty well. Starting to miss it after 6 weeks of pastas and Bavarian meats, actually...

From a straw poll of all the Chinese people I know in Munich: Jade at Michaelibad is the most authentic Chinese food here, the staff are Chinese, speaks Cantonese. But really more expensive than the rest. Last time I was there, a meal for four without beers (only Chinese tea) was €60.

Must try Kam Yi, heard a lot of recommendations also.

Dim sum... yum~~~~
