Hi ppl,
I live and work in Germany and have been here for the past one and a half year now. came here on a intercompany transfer for 2 years and decided to stay here. Applied for jobs here and after nearly 110 applications got an interview and bagged the job...phew. As I am from a non-EU country, I had to get a work permit...the company did this for me and it was approved in a quick 3 week period...then the games began.I wasn't sent the contract before the WP was applied for...and when I finally got it in hand after the WP came thru, the terms in the contract were were nowhere close to wat we had previously agreed on. Negotiations went on for a week and then finally got a mail that they were withdrawing the whole job offer thing. Now landing a job was quite a hassle and for it to be whisked away abruptly is bollocks. Though I want to blame the firm for not sticking to the original terms discussed, I certainly could have handled things better from my end. Now I'm scouting the job portals again....if a job can be got in this market situation...it can be got again uh
A word of caution for those negotiating contracts with prospective employers...play it cool
Good luck to all on the job hunt!
