How sad!

Tis sad, but I can't help thinking about how this might apply: Drivers responsible for dodging Oktoberfest drunks
perdido
Damn already. I was hoping the usual oktfest accidents would not happen for a few more weeks. This is bad news as always.

The Local is claiming that he was walking along the tracks when he was hit by the S-Bahn.

Truly horrible. I had a close friend go the same way at the same age in NY. Invincible youth + booze + trains. Damn it.

From munich police

What you got to do is lay down. As flat as you can. And it will pass harmlessly over the top of you. Unless it has one of those water scoops underneath.

If you're thinking that logically then presumably you wouldn't be walking along the tracks in the first place. Maybe this will serve as a reminder that getting paralysingly drunk in a foreign city isn't necessarily such a great idea, and thus save someone else's life in turn.

Good point about the "foreign city", as those who have been here a long time may automatically recognise and avoid such situations when paralytic to the same degree.

And yes, logical thinking goes after a few beers leading you to drink even more. At that stage it is too late already.

What can you do beforehand if you know you will end up in that state? Have a more sober mate with you, or you pre-program yourself to always get a taxi and have a note with your address on it.
You could get yourself arrested for your own safety. Taking the U-bahn or walking is equally dangerous.

Like the two boozed-up locals who fell into the Eisbach early 2007?
This accident reminds me of Ramnik, another Ozzie who died on vacation in Munich. He went swimming in the Eisbach, got pulled under and drowned (July 2007).

Thank goodness it happened in the small hours. Can you imagine the uproar had this occurred during rush hour?

Foreign City or not, basic rules state that walking along train tracks that are USED BY TRAINS is not the most advisable activity in the world.

OMG I work at Jaegers Hostel and the Fanatics Group always stay at our hostel every year, jesus christ!

One loss of life is tragic enough, I really hope that's the last casualty at this Oktoberfest

Yesterday evening during rush hour there was a short delay in all Sbahns in the Stammstrecke, because someone fell off the platform at the Ostbahnhof.
