Driving speed limits in Germany

hello TT leute,
I have been driving around for about 5 years in Germany, following the speed limit (ish) without picking up a single speeding fine. Now within the space of a month I have got two speeding fines. My work mates have told me with some relish that the Ortschild (town sign) constitutes a 50 Kmh speed limit, did this one just go by me (for like 5 years) or are they pulling my leg?

Thats the deal. Also the spiel strasses are 6-8kmh and not as fast as you want when you don't see kids around.

Looks like a case of ignorance not being an excuse, gess I will just have to take the consequences.
50 euros and 1 point fine.

PS I wonder how they will put the point on my (old style) British driving licence

Certainly, as you enter a village of town.. slow to 50 KM... when it says 70KM, do 70 KM

That is cheap. In the states, you would pay 75-150 in court costs alone. Of course a portion of that goes to the judges retirement fund. Seriously, it does.
Looks like you were doing more than 62, but less than 72ish.

yea, got "Blitzt" at 22 over the limit.
my German wife has just fallen over laughing, saying "didn't you know that!"
How stupid do I feel now!
So off to read the SvO and learn all the things that I should have know about 5 years ago. Like cycling the right way on the cycle paths, and Trittgeschwindigkeit (walking pace) etc...
This is what comes of taking a contract first and worring about the little things afterwards, (by laws, in-laws, speed limits) and so on
