Hi, sorry to invade your chatroom.
I am one of the thousands of Chelsea fans that will descend upon your city(sorry for some of their behaviour in advance)
There are about 20 of us in a mixed sex group, and we are well behaved, mostly.
Can you recommend a/some good bar/restaurants, that may be hidden away in some secret corner of the city?
We shall not be frequenting the Irish and English establishments, thank you.
In Barcelona we found an underground cavern type bar/resaurant, which was hidden away down a small narrow back street, but was quite central in the city and was quite wonderful, similar places would be appreciated.
I have had a good look around the site and found a few places to maybe look out for, but there's nothing like a personal touch.
Thank you in advance.

Cobb, for traditional bierkellar try Unionsbrau - Max-Weber-Platz. Gets busy and you should probably speak at least a bit of German.
Details somewhere here... search for unionsbrau

Try small-ish bars in
Schwabing, like Alte Simpl. If not, try the Tex-American place Twisted Bavarian, it's kind of central, but out of the way at the same time. No trouble mind, and book in advanced for 20-ish. It's good for a mixed sex crowd. Definately avoid the Irish pubs. Not sure there are any English pubs left. Don't go to the biergartens because they will be stuffed with Bayern München fans from all over Hannover, Etc.
Oh! and while yer at it...
...can you put a few past Routemaster-Rear faced Kahn?

Yeup, the microbrewery beer is good (even though it's owned by Lowenbrau!) and the traditional food is good value. Esp. the ribs.

UnionsBräu is fab, if a little quiet. Downstairs is more lively I guess, and with 20 people the tables are big.
If not maybe Augustiner brewery near the main station, they have a beer garden and a lovely cellar (hidden away). Or the other side of the
S-Bahn tracks (near the
Oktoberfest field) is the main brewery restaurant, typically bavarian and great value.
Or Juleps / Bar Lissabon right next to the East Station, Juleps speak english and the food is fab, all candle-lit too and they have a happy hour.

sin, alte simpl is good but with 20 peeps it could be a problem to get enough space.
what about the
Paulaner near the arbeitsamt or the augustiner in the brewery itsself where you can see the horses...?
oh and dont worry about chelsea fans, you'll be surrounded by barvarian police... you stand a snowballs chance in hell of farting in the wrong direction let alone starting a fight!
i'd stay clear of any big beer hall aswell as the biergardens, unless you go to a smaller one such as thurn und thaxis maybe.

Irish Bar - Güther Murphy's on the Nikolaistrasse
Traditonal - UnionsBräu, near Max-Weber-Platz
Touristy - Hofbräuhaus
Bavarian but in the centre of town - Weißes Bräuhaus, am Tal.
Biergarten - take your pick from Augustinerkellner (not far from Hauptbahnhof), Seehaus, Chinese Tower, Hirschau (all in the English Gardens), Taxisgarten in Nymphenburg, Hirschgarten etc etc etc.

The food isn't so important, although a meal or even a snack, to soak up the beer is cool.
Saying that, 3 days to explore means it's nice to have at least one decent meal with wine.
Tuesday will be beer and footy day in a decent bar with maybe cocktails, Wednesday will be the day for a meal and a good night out, Thursday we will be visiting Dacau, I think.
We just hate the Irish/English themed bars, they will be full to the rafters with supporters anyway.
I suppose it is a bit vague!

the last time we were at Unionsbrau, I got mild food poisoning from the ribs (no, was not drunk enough for it to be the beer). Still, wouldn't rule them out. Our waitress spoke great English too.
Love the Augustiner on Landsbergerstrasse!

Sendlinger Augustiner on Alramstr. Out of the way, local, good food. Might even be able to put the game on for you on big screen if you ask nicely.

Zoozie's would be a decent place to grab a few drinks in a nice enough german atmosphere. Been there a handful of times, but each time was a little warm and bubbly before getting there, so I'm a little hazy for directions.
Sausalito's on Türkenstrasse is also not bad - cocktails are nice, and the opposite sex there are just as good.
Otherwise, Eat the Rich (Schwabing somewhere I think - see reason why I can't remember how to get to Zoozies) is a small, yet real 'good time' place. Top crowd there too, plus you get half litre cocktails.
not terribly cheap at these places, but not touristy places.

Sin, no, I'm in Maxvorstadt now. But I've lived twice nearby. I have fond memories of watching the World Cup in 1998 there. Had my birthday there once, I like the place and I think it's better than most of the places mentioned so far. (totally my opinion, nothing wrong with most already mentioned, just not where I would recommend)
