My dad in Australia is ill and I desperately need to go back home... and so I desperately need to find a new home for my lovely old cat. I don't think I will ever be coming back to Germany so I'm looking for someone to love her in her retirement.

Her name is Michiko (meaning: beautiful+wise)... she is a very small 15 year old Tabby in great health.

She is desexed and up to date with all her shots... she needs just a flu shot once a year (every April).

She originally came from a cat rescue home here in Berlin - and so like many rescue cats she is extremely scared of strangers. Once she is comfortable with you she is loving and affectionate.

She would be happy with a garden/balcony to prowl in... but she currently lives with me in a small 50sq/m flat and she doesnt go outside at all - so it's not a necessity.

Like most old age pensioners, she likes to sleep most of the day... preferably in the sun or in a cupboard. She also loves real chicken and being rubbed around the ears in the morning while you are drinking coffee. She does still have lots of life in her, and likes to chase shoelaces, spiders and insects and watch the household proceedings from up high.

She is completely house trained - she only scratches her post and never the furniture.. she always uses her litter tray and doesnt eat potplants. I will give you everything you need for her... carrier box, litter tray, scratching post, toys and all the cat food in my house! She needs to eat dry food for old cats.

She needs a quiet loving home... with no children so she can sleep in peace and not be scared.

I can't bear the thought of sending her back to the cats home.... she probably has only a few more years left in her and so isn't a lifetime commitment... but you need to be here for a long while and not just a year or two as she may live for years yet.

Please help me if you can... my email is kat.kim9@gmail.com

Oh, she looks like a sweetie!!
I believe you when you say she doesn't scratch anything except her scratching post. Cats this age sleep a lot and are really wonderful to have around.

I was all set to say I know someone but we live down in Munich..... :-(

Good luck, I'm sure you'll find someone!!

When are you leaving? Can't you take her with you? I brought my cats here from Canada and all I needed was about 5 weeks advance notice of my leaving date. It's easier than you would think.

I leave in a few weeks... unfortunately it's not that easy. Australia is a rabies free country and has some of the toughest quarantine laws/processes in the world. She would end up spending at the very least 6 months in a quarantine facility hours and hours away from our home... and thats without starting to think about the stress of the 30 hour flight. She is just too old... it would be too cruel for her.

I hope you find someone Our Max got to 19 years old he was a fantastic friend .Lots of people do not realise how clever and friendly cats are
Try not to take her with you!! There is someone out there that will just love to have her

Kim, I hope you find a good home for her. She looks like a lovely old cat. She would be ideal for a senior or someone with disabilities who wants a quiet, loving companion. I have 4 of my own and I'm leaving so I can't take her unfortunately.

Stu, Max is a beautiful cat. He reminds me of my Minke, but she's young, about 3 years old, and female. Does he have a shorter than normal tail?

GB, cats can adjust, even older cats. It just takes some time. The cat owner must be patient with them and give a new cat space at first. You should be ashamed for what you said. I hope Kim's feelings weren't hurt too much.

She will NOT be but down because I need to leave. I knew some idiot would post something like that.

She will be just fine adjusting to a new home - as long as she goes to the right home.

Gb is a new boy on here and I think he should think about what he says in future
No max didnt have a short tail he had a long life though

My heart goes out to kim, I know how hard it can be to make the decision to give up a beloved pet. I had three cats when I came to Germany. One of which I have had since I was a child. One went to my mom and spends his days lazying around a farm hes about 16 years old now. The other two went to my best friend. The cats have brought her so much joy, and it makes me so happy to know how much she and my kitten have grown to love one another Even to this day I feel like I lost a part of myself giving them away. They were my babies.

I wish you the best of luck with finding a home. Do not give up, and just ignore the jerk off comments.

Try to find someone who will keep you updated with pics. That has helped me a lot.

Good luck, Kim! If I wasn't leaving this wonderful city in just a few days, I would have LOVED to surprise my girfriend with your beautiful Michiko. All the best in your search for the right home!

I appreciate that you are attached to your cat, but at the same time you are leaving and looking for someone to take over your responsibility of caring for a dying cat. She's 15, thats a big age for a cat, and from the picture I would hardly use the words bright eyed and bushy tailed. I don't want to make you feel guilty, but your leaving the cat to it own devices, yet too selfish to do the right thing which would be to put it down. They don't feel a thing and if its that or a cage in a home or looking for strangers on the internet to watch her go down hill for two years, I know what I'd do.

My Cat lived and was WELL for 19 years he went to the Vets once or twice in his life
as for not feeling a thing I took Max to be "PUT DOWN" as he was dying in the end (Like we all do) it was not a pretty site I can tell you .It does not just go pop and he's gone They get a pre med which makes them sick and then they get a needle in the heart .and this takes time as well

I'm sorry, but you obviously aren't a pet person. So how about you get the hell out of this thread and let people who actually care for animals handle this? My mom had a cat from her college days that lived to be 20 years old, and only in the last month of her life did she really decline horribly. Cats can live for years past the age this cat is now. Also, I realize you're fairly new, but we aren't just "strangers on the internet". A lot of people on this forum know each other personally. I would be willing to bet Kim isn't only advertising here, but around Berlin as well. And even if she isn't, so what? She obviously cares enough that she won't just leave the cat with the first person to say, "hey i want 2 have ur cat i live alone with 3 rottweilers". If I weren't so far away from Berlin I would gladly give this cat a windowsill full of sunshine to nap on for however long she decides to stick around in this world.

Oh, and as for her not looking "bright eyed and bushy tailed" in the picture? She's sleeping. That's what cats do ALL THE TIME. Ask any cat owner. Twat.

Have you tried putting an ad on the VHS noticeboard? Especially the noticeboard dealing with courses that Germans themselves might be doing, so the cat has a chance of finding a stable home for her twilight years. Or how about notices at a few vet clinics?

I have a beautiful cat who is now 15 years old too. She sleeps a lot too but she still streaks across the garden and up the palm tree as if there were lightning under her tail. She's a lot more talkative now too

Keep trying, you might just need to widen your search parameters.
