President Obama calls Kanye West a jackass

Freedom of speech for the President?

I was just wondering what people think a leader of a country should or should not be allowed to express.

President Obama was heard call the rapper, Kanye West, "a jackass", following West's behaviour at the MTV Awards. Some people think it was perfectly ok, others think that, as President he should curb his tongue.

Personally I think calling West a "jackass" was a bit of an understatement.

That is his charisma. He has an edge, and most admire him for his intelligent, off the cuff, remarks.

Come on folks! I personally did not understand why this broke the news 3 days ago. That chum was a real 'Jackass'.
Pas
Jackass is the lighter end of what he should be described as.
Bell the cat
is "jackass" even rude? It sounds like something my Grandpa would have said.

Who? This crapper guy?

I wonder why the president of the US should comment on the publicity stunt of some rapper, though.

The President of the US is a Human.

Obama is the Jackass!

Why am I reminded of Happy Gilmore by that last post?

Am I really about to compare Obama to Neil Kinnock? Ah, fuck it...

I quite like a politician who shows a bit of humour and/or isn't constantly being schooled in spin. I recall many moons ago Neil Kinnock being interviewed by Wogan (the last century called... they want their meme back)

It was some time after his resignation as Leader of the Opposition, where he'd typically come across as / been portrayed as a bit of a humourless chump. But once he had nothing to lose (or rather, nothing further to gain), he came across in that interview (at least) as a level-headed guy that you'd actually quite like in charge!

So, frankly, I'd like less spin in politics, but sadly, there are far too many sanctimonious tw[strike]i[/strike]ts in the media who blow every little thing out of all proportion, for an audience of gormless blue rinses.

Daily Mail? Humbug!

I'm wondering if this made the news to give some balance to Obama's recent comment about the white police in Cambridge, Mass. who Obama called "stupid" in handling of the Gates incident. He took quite a bit of flack for that comment.

LR, Obama said the Cambridge police "acted stupidly" in the Henry Louis Gates arrest incident. He didn't say they were stupid. Subtle difference.

He probably should have said Kanye "acted like a jackass" when he rushed the stage at the MTV awards to tell the award winner that someone else's video was better than hers.

Ask the CNBC News correspondent who asked the question directly of the President.

I think it's encouraging that Obama even knew about the incident. Apparently he keeps up with current affairs of all kinds.
BadBob
Barry should just have Mr. West over to the White House for a beer and clear things up.
