Hairdresser Hamburg mixed woman with curly hair

Help needed

monglow
Hello all,
I am desperately looking for a hairdresser in Hamburg. I am mixed (half-black, half-white) woman with very curly hair. In New York, I go to a Dominican hair salon and get a roller set (rollers under the big dryer) and blow dry straight. I am looking for something similar here in Hamburg and so far have been unsuccesful. The rollers they put on my hair are small self-grip rollers which don't work for non-straight, ethnic hair whereas I need basic, large plastic rollers. I also tried a couple of afro-shops but they were more for braiding.

If anyone has any suggestions of specific hairdressers in Hamburg, I would really really appreciate it! :-)

Thank you in advance for your help.

have you tried around either barmbek or altona, mostly afro shops but seems to be more than one in either location. So you never know.

I have a similar problem to you. I am Brazilian and have typical mixed race curly hair.

There is a afro hairdressing salon near my place and I went there a week or 2 ago to ask the guy (Nana Kay) if he could straighten my hair using straightening iron and blow dry, etc, since German hairdresses wanted to charge me over 60 euros for that. Not to mention that to most european hairdressers my hair is a nightmare ;-)

Anyway, he does it and absolutely cheaper than 60 euros! And though I havent had it done yet, I intend to. He seemed really nice and its a proper hairdressing salon!

This is the website:

http://www.nanakay.com/

Its walking distance from the U1 stop Wandsbeker Chaussee.

Let me know if you went there or if you found another place =)

Thanks a lot for this info! I'll try it out asap. I also made an appointment for this week at a turkish hairdresser. I walked in because I saw he was doing a client with similar hair than me. He said he can do it no problem. If he's good I will give you his info, if he's no good, I will try Nana Kay. Thanks again, I really appreciate your response!

hope everything works out! it might be useful to start a thread for this since finding a hairdresser that could handle my hair was totally one of the biggest hassles that i had when i first came to germany about 7 or 8 years ago. i've since gone back to wearing my hair with its natural curls, so now i just invest in my favorite products. my alltime favorite afro shop is called grace's world of beauty, which is close to the altona train station on max-brauer-allee. they have a very big assortment of products.

as far as actual salons, i don't remember if they're still there, but there was a place on grindelallee (not far from the bus stop "bezirksamt eimsbüttel" going in the direction towards the "grindelhof" bus stop) that does hair. i don't recall the name though.

i've also heard good things about nyima j's in altona http://www.n-js.de/ mostly from people who've gotten braids/weave, but from the look of the website they also do straightening chemically (60€ short/75€ long hair, wash/dry included) or with straightening iron (15€ including wash/dry) or rollers + straighting iron (45€ wash/dry)

if i hear about anymore i'll post them here!

Hello! Sorry I took so long to report on this. I found a great hairdresser in the city, he´s turkish. He doesn't do the roller set but was able to get my hair extremely straight by blowdrying. Not my ideal, but very happy I found someone who can do my hair well.
Wash and blow dry straight costs 25 euros (plus 8 euros for a conditioning treatment). The salon is on Poststrasse and the number is 040343268.

Just stop any Porche Boxter and you've probably found your hairdresser.
