English language trainer sought in Berlin

Hello everybody!

I am 18 and English is my first foreign language (I reached the overall score of 7.5 in IELTS this year). For certain reasons I need an English native speaker in Berlin who should primarily train my oral proficiency. Hence, the lessons will be more about talking and discussing, for example based on an article which was read beforehand, rather than teaching grammar and the like.

For taking lessons I would come to your home, whereas at the same time I would very much appreciate if you would offer a price that is affordable for a pupil like me. I would like to take a lesson of one hour once a week.

Ah, and British-English please.

Hi Jim, I would be more than happy to help you. My native language is English and I studied it in college. I am also a student, acutally will be again soon, so I understand the money issue. Which British English accent?

I m not really sure whether I get the point in your question, but... uhm, preferably Oxford- or London/BBC-English , but generally British-English is fine. =)

Hi Jimmy. Despite any comments passed here which suggest otherwise, your request is quite understandable for any reasonably thinking person. It’s not unusual to have a preference for British English or for American English, especially in the field of business.

Ignore any cryptic, or hair-splitting replies, and don’t enter into a long-winded discussion or argument about how British English can be defined. This topic has been done to death elsewhere on TT as well as on more specialised forums; and there is never a 100% convincing argument one way or the other.

You have come to a good place to find what you seek. Just wait until (hopefully) someone living in your area posts here, or otherwise contacts you. Have you considered going to a TT get-together in Berlin? You might meet somebody there.

BTW, “Auf Wiedersehen Pet” was a popular TV comedy in the UK. The humour is very British (…) and depends a lot on the accents spoken, so don’t worry if you don’t understand it.

If it is conversational english you require in the british or bbc style I can definitly help you with that. I live in new zealand (former british colony) and am a trained radio news reader and I am coming to berlin very soon, im leaving nz in a week and having 2 weeks in croatia before coming to berlin. As a new person to the city Im sure there are ways which you can help me instead of paying me cash. I have a German work visa so i will be looking for a full time job and room to rent.
