Hello,
I recently moved to Germany from the US, I now live in the Weinheim area, and I haven't yet met any native English speakers who live in the area. My German speaking capability is almost non-existent, and I seem to be a slow learner thus far. This has kept me from getting to know my new surroundings as much as I'd like to. I seek an English speaking acquaintance or two (M/F/single/married/doesn't matter) close to where I live to get together occasionally in Weinheim or towns nearby or even Heidelberg. It would be wonderful if you were willing to help me learn German, but I'd be appreciative of someone to just show me around. Thanks for your consideration. Please send me a message if you can help or know someone.

Hi Sunrise! As JodieJo says there will be people at Murphy's tonight and I know that several of them have connections with Weinheim. Come along and say hello if you can!

Thank you for the suggestion. I'm unable to make it tonight, but I may try on a future Tuesday.

A good way to meet other English speakers locally - it was for me, anyway - is to enrol in Deutsch als Fremdsprache courses at the local Volkshochsschule. You get to learn German faster, widen your social circle and you will find a few English speakers or people with a working knowledge of English on the courses.
I go to Schwetzingen VHS as that is the nearest to me - there's a VHS in Heidelberg, too, those of us who pay our own fees have to sit our prüfung at Heidelberg rather than our own school! Very irritating, but never mind.
That said, I've been here four days shy of a year and have two more weeks of classes left and still don't feel that confident speaking or writing German. And that's despite having studied the language for three years in school in my teens!
It might be that there are more English speakers in larger VHSs, I don't know. There are no Americans or other Brits on my course, but there is a Nigerian girl and a South African girl who both speak perfect English. There was one American, a retired military guy, who was in the class below mine, but I haven't seen him since before the summer break. Irrelevant, I know, but something I've been wondering about the last few weeks.
I think we're maybe a bit out of your way in Bruehl. I keep meaning to make it along to the quiz nights in Mannheim but I haven't managed it yet.
Good luck!
