Hi there,
no fun but no way out, my son needs to go through surgery again. He had an operation in France a month ago, for a testicle stuck up high. It stayed down for several days after the surgery, but escaped back up again after that. By the time we noticed it wouldn't come down anymore, we were back in Munich. I called the french surgeon who operated my son, he told me it wasn't normal at all, and i had to show him again to a surgeon. Alas, everyone here was still on vacation. I managed still to get the phone number of a pediatric surgeon here, who told me on the contrary that whith this kind of surgery, it was perfectly normal, and that i needn't worry for another three weeks.
Three weeks after, the testicle is still stuck up there, so i guess it was not normal after all.
So, my question is : does anyone know a (good ?) surgeon who could do this? Maybe someone with the same story?
In France there is no such thing as pediatric surgeons really. For this kind of problem you go see an urologist, who will do it. Of course some are very used to operating children, and some aren't. But a good family doctor will only send you to a guy who is used to doing the job on children.
I think i understood that here, an urologist for adults won't operate a child, but as all the ones i got the phone number of were still on vacation, i couldn't make sure.
Thanks a lot for your tips and advices, i really need some right now!

No, this is not an emergency and should not be treated as such - that's sort of playing roulette.
Emergency room visit should only be done if the child is in pain, not drinking fluids or if the area is infected.
While I can't give a recommendation for a surgeon, I'm sure others here will. Take your child to a good local GP that can give a reco.
Best of luck.
Oh, and minor point, of course there are pediatric surgeons in France -- there are several specialisations in that area and scientific societies like the SFCP and the SFUP.

Thanks for the answers, actually i might have found someone thanks to a friend here.
And Zemonkey, you're totally right, there are pediatric surgeons in France, but definitely less than in Germany. It's common for a child to have surgery done by a surgeon that will do both adults and children, especially when it comes to urology, ORL, neurosurgery, and some other specialities.
It's also common to have a hausarzt for children and adults. Which i find quite handy.
But i am sure it's not better in France than in Germany anyway!
Thanks again, good evening everyone!

Glad you found someone, and best of luck for the little one, surgery and children are a trying time and it isn't easy to explain the pain.

Thanks Zemonkey, i hope it won't be too much of a hard time! What worries him most, is to be unable to understand what he'll be told (he doesn't speak nor understands German). I will be besides him as much as possible, but definitely not in the surgery room.
Well, there are cases way worse around, i know we'll handle this.
Thanks again!

If there is anything to (rightly) complain about health care in Germany, getting a referal from your house doctor to a specialist shouldn't be one of them. And if one needs a tip, someone on TT can always advise.

Try Dr Stuart Hosie, head of children's surgery at the Schwabinger Krankenhaus - pediatric urology is one of his specialities.
