Smoking while pushing the baby around - Germany

Anyone else notice a lot of this over here? (pic)

The picture below was actually taken in Chamonix, France last weekend, but I also notice a lot of this in Germany. In fact, I see someone doing this at least a few times a week and it really surprises me. In most cases, it's mommy puffing away while tending to the kid, sometimes reaching in to the carriage to adjust the baby with the ciggy in her mouth. I guess they try to start them early over here? I'm sure it happens, but I have never seen this in the US or Canada or Japan - just Europe (at least Germany and now France). Anyone else notice this where they live in Germany? Maybe it's just the podunk villages where I've settled. Redneck Kuhdorfs and all that.....

Then your not paying attention.

Míddle of Munich as well. It's a jungle out there, total lack of civilization.

Thanks for the reply NoBullJIm!!!

Yes, I never pay attention to anything. I simply skip through life, ladadeediddyda, passing my time staring at the clouds, pretending I'm a feather on the wind, dreaming dreams of rainbows and puppy dogs.

What struck the nerve? Why the bold type? Why did you leave the qualifier I included at the end of that sentence out of the quote? Ahh, because you're one of a number of pricks on this site who enjoys, well, being a prick. A big reason I rarely check in here anymore.

I haven't seen this in the places I've listed. That is why I started this topic - because it is something I have noticed quite a bit over here. Now, if I was on Toytown Mobile, Alabama, I'd probably start a post, with a picture, of a pregnant woman smoking. I have seen that often in the US in certain places. Can't recall seeing it in Germany, however but I'm sure it happens too.

Have a nice night!

You obviously missed my point. Have fun chasing your rainbows and puppy dogs.

I was just funnin'.

Besides, I wasn't paying attention when I wrote the above. As a person about to get married, I'm working on perfecting this craft. It's expected of me, isn't it?
NoBullJim
Understood. Good luck and I wish you a very happy life. Nothing beats happiness.

Then you're not [s]paying[/s] [s]attention[/s] living there.
There fixed it.

Thanks for that! Yeah, the last couple of weeks has been pretty hectic. We've been wearing ourselves thin getting everything ready for the 17 family members that are flying in this Thursday for the wedding. Now, I'm trying to stay awake to watch some college football tonight. I'm a masochist.

Crap, I think I may need a ciggy.......

I've been going through the 993 pictures (no kidding) I took last week in Chamonix and had forgotten about the pram/smoking one. I really thought that was only in Germany and was surprised to see it in a place like Chamonix.

Oh, and as for the aformentioned pricks, include me in that group Sorry for that NBJ.

No apology needed here Beaver. This is Toytown It's kind of a family environment. Hope all goes well for you. Good luck.

Just wondering did you have the courage to go up to any of the mothers and tap them on the shoulder and then say something like "pardon me, but did you happen to notice you're pushing a baby and your baby is smoking too"?

Yeah Beaver I see this a lot in Germany, too. Especially very young women. There´s only the dog missing to make a typical German redneck mom.

Yes, because nothing screams "pushy old busy body" more than a know it all tapping a young mother on the shoulder to tell her how to live her life and raise her kid.

Of course she knows deep inside that it's not good that she smokes, of course she knows that the kid is maybe getting as much of the smoke as it is car exhaust, of course she's going to be offended and not stop her behavior because of someone being an interferring busybody. And people here complain of bored old ladies giving them the once over in the U-Bahn.
