Hi there
I’m a 23yo Aussie and have only been here in Bockenheim, Frankfurt for 2 weeks now and will be here for the next year, working for a German family as an au pair. The agency we have gone through has organised meetings with other au pairs, however I didn’t really click with any of them, mainly because I made an effort to talk to them and they looked as though they couldn’t be bothered! (perhaps they were shy, who knows…)
But anyway, I have read many of the other posts on here and I didn’t know which post I should reply to so I thought I’d just start another one and ask to see if anyone else is new to Frankfurt and/or would like to meet up for a coffee or a drink etc, either day or night? I am having a bit of culture shock atm, plus I am finding that due to my job, I haven’t been able to do much exploring of places to go eat/drink (I have visited most of the tourist sites however…) or meet new people. I’m probably no different from other expats when I say that back home I was so used to seeing friends very often for a drink or dinner or a movie etc and now its like I am back in kindergarten; im in a new environment with no one I know (and remember, I talk to babies all day long!!!) and I have to make new friends and start over, which I am excited to do, it’s just I don’t know where to start and a fellow au pair mentioned TT to me, hence why I joined!
So again, if anyone would like to organise a catch up, I am usually free Friday evenings and all day Sat and Sun (sorry, its just the way my contract goes!). Also, if you are a mum/fellow au pair, we can also organise a meeting at a playground during the week with the kids and they can have a bit of a play together too, if that’s something anyone maybe interested in too. I think I am just so used to socialising that suddenly having no one around me except my au pair family is making me realise how much I miss other human interactions! So if you’d like to meet me one on one, or with a group of others, I would love to hear from you =)
Cheers, Jacinta

Well I'm not an Au Pair but if you want to meet up with a broader set of people why not look at the meet ups section http://www.toytowngermany.com/forum/index.php?showforum=90 here or join the very active Frankfurt-n-Motion group at Yahoo, Frankfurt-n-Motion@yahoogroups.com . Lots of people making friends, organising events, traveling, clubbing. All ages, all times of the day. Enjoy your time in Germany and Have Fun!

Jacinta... I also assistant organize social networking events (socials) for an online-based group called "MeetUp.com". There are all kinds of activity groups on that website, and you can search for something you like based upon the type of interest... movies, expats, travel, wine, languages, etc. A good group is run by a guy named Fabien, and is called "The Original Frankfurt Expat New In Town" group. See you around. OE.

Ah it happens to everyone when they first move here. I'm not an Au Pair but I've been here roughly two years now, took roughly 6 months before I really made any friends here. The best thing I can suggest to you is to just go out whether it be alone or with one other person and you will meet new people. I tried these internet meet-ups twice and learned that I really couldn't stand the people at them, most of the people just seemed fake. But give it a try, it might be your thing. I'd say you could join myself, my cousin, and her friends for our meet-ups/bar nights, but our schedules are really messed up and so sometimes we only meet up once every couple of months. Good luck!
