Bavarian woman claims to own world's oldest dog

Bernese Mountain Dog in the Allgäu is 25 years old

The Local
News has spread quickly that the world's oldest dog, a dachshund-mix named "Chanel," recently died at the age of 21. Now a Bavarian woman claims that her dog Penny is actually even older.

Last week broadcaster Südwestrundfunk (SWR) reported a call from Verena Wulf, a Ronsberg resident in the mountainous Allgäu region who said her Bernese Mountain Dog was even older the late Chanel.

"My Penny is at least 25 years old," Wulf said in a radio interview, going on to explain that the aging dog has a tattoo in her ear which indicates her date of birth.

Max,a "terrier mix" owned by Janelle DeRouen of New Iberia, Louisiana,USA, was born on August 9, 1983. He celebrated his 26th birthday last month.
Janelle says Max is in remarkably good shape. He suffers from cataracts, so he wears doggie goggles when he's out in the sun, and a touch of arthritis has slowed him down, but not by much.

So it seems that Penny is perhaps the second-oldest dog. Max is the max!
