Snow seems to have taken a vacation so time to get the bikes out.

Suggestion is to take the trail along the Isar down to Grünwald/Schäfflan (dependent on consensus). If weather turns wintery, then the event will be rescheduled.

For those that have never been, it's a really scenic route with a couple of small ups and a great downhill stretch... no hard core mountain bike or bulging muscles required. We'll stop in for a radler/snack en route at a nice beer garden and be back for c. 3-4pm.

Open to all so post/pm me if you wanna join.

Meeting place will be the Frauenhof Ubahn station next to the Isargrill restaurant at 12pm sharp, Sat 16th April
Why8
@Shaggy: will confirm with you closer to the date, but barring any major disaster, you can count me in! Thanks for organising it. tongue.gif
butterbean
finally got my bike back out of the keller. would love to do this.
Elfenstar
gotta get into bike modus, so you can tentatively count me in!
Arwen
sounds good!
depends on the weather though! isn't it supposed to rain?
JoolyBooly
I'd love to go but am goingto Arwen's hairdresser at 1... maybe meet you all after for drink?
Owain Glyndwr
I did this trip over easter but went a little further (started further north near Unterföhring and rode about 15km further south than Grünwald and then back to Oberföhring.

Fantastic day out, though it can get a little busy in town. In MVHO it is better to take the S-Bahn to Grosseheselohe Isar-Bahnhof and then doing a 50-70k round trip from there.
butterbean
he's talking about next Saturday ladies, not this one - surely we won't know the weather for sure until next week?

Come to think of it, I put road tires on my mountain bike to go around town with. Is the trail easy enough that this won't matter, or should I switch back?
Shaggy
@OG- I think 60-70 Km's might be a little much for some of us but would be up for organising a more hardcore trip down the road.

@BB- If you want the fun countryside stints, I would recommend getting the summer tyres back on... it's not a brutal trail but def too much for your road rubber.

Yep... Next Sat not this one... so no excuses dry.gif
JoolyBooly
well actually doch, I'll be in Wien. tongue.gif
butterbean
thanks. that begs my next question though: can anyone help me change my tires? will pay $/beer... ph34r.gif
Shaggy
@BB- bike shop normally charge 10 per wheel for a puncture so prob the easiest eay. Is the pitbull coming too??
butterbean
while I do have a basket attachment for the "pit bull" smile.gif , I don't know that he'd enjoy a bumpy ride.

Pssst...send Tom a PM cool.gif Beer is an easy persuasion.
Shaggy
@ Blimeygirl- your cast should be off... reckon the ankle will hold up? Doubt we'll be going too manic (apart from the 3 year old terrier aka Canuck)
Yeti
Would like to have made this but I'll be cycling around the Ammersee with a friend on this Saturday (the 9th), starting around 10:00 from Utting. I know it's the dark side of the moon but there you go. If anybody is interested PM me.
Blimeygirl
Would love to...so badly you have no idea...but I am thinking my doc will probably not give that the thumbs up.

I would be interested in meeting for the requisite after-the-ride beers though smile.gif

So it's official...Canuck IS in fact an animal smile.gif
Shaggy
OK, weather is looking 17Cmax and sun/cloud so not a bad day for it.
Looks like we may end up doing the easy route but we can figure it out en route.

So far I see
ButterBean
Arwen + canuck(?)
Elfenstar
Shaggy

why8- maybe
blimeygirl-maybe

will pm a few other slackers.. any more takers?
Darkknight
Put me down for a maybe
Why8
ARRRGH. I can't go. I have to go visit a friend in Austria over the weekend, and he's been so nice to arrange everything already, so I can't say no.

Someone please take photos of the trip and post them on Toytown.

@Shaggy - please please organise another round in the coming weeks. Or tell me the route to go and we can do another one with the rest who can't be there...
Elfenstar
don't count me in just yet cause my bf & i might go skiing on saturday if we find out a good place to go that isn't a 3 hr. drive away. if not, i am in.
Shaggy
I'm sure there'll be plenty of these down the road so no panic. We'll be about 8 so enough to make it fun.
UrbanAngel
Can you put me down for maybe a maybe? Not sure if I'm doing this or Sunday's route.
Whichever's easiest wink.gif
Onni
Count me in! It's high time to dust off my MTB and start the cycling season!

@UrbanAngel - I've been following the Sunday cycling thread and if you have a mountain bike, the Saturday ride is going to be way easier for you. On Sunday they plan to go at an average speed of 25-30 kph - easy with a race bike, but with an MTB it'll be pain in the ass to stay with the pace, even when cycling in the slipstream.
UrbanAngel
Ah ok thanks for the tip Onni. I have a hybrid of a bike - a city bike which my local shop converted into a mountain bike, so i'm not sure what you'd call it exactly!
I'll have to check we have no other plans for Saturday, otherwise I'm in.
DrivinWest
Gonna try but I have a feeling my participation will depend on how well I'm feeling after the previous night.
Shaggy
hey DW... where've you been hiding? Thought you'd taken the shuttle upwards.

@urban angel- I think the speed's more down to the tyre size.. racers have such skinny rims that there is minimal friction. As most of this thread are either sporting injuries or wine guzzlers, the pace will be pretty tame.
UrbanAngel
i think i have mountain bike tyres ie thicker but dunno
i bought this bike 2 years ago and i still havent figured out how to turn the light on
i'm too embarrassed to go back to the shop and ask
could be broken i guess but i do have no clue about bikes
maybe 1 of you could have a look at it for me? wink.gif

Been all over! I spent the last month between Bremen, Amsterdam, Paris and Houston. Kinda weird being back actually!
Shaggy
@urbanangel- can't believe you women still try that "helpless female role"on after we've all seen sex and the city wink.gif No probs, we'll check it out.

@DW- manic.. guess your Fri binge will be big. Catchya Saturday if you can roll out of your hangover cool.gif
UrbanAngel
nothing to do with me being female.. i don't think
i just honestly have no clue about bikes smile.gif
butterbean
mountain bike tires are thicker, but more importantly are nubby/have deep treads to grip dirt, etc. we can check the light.

signed,
a female wink.gif

(who has not put the nubby tires back on her bike yet...)
UrbanAngel
'nubby'.. that's a new word to me! Can't say if my tyres are nubby or not hehe
Blimeygirl
Well I got my walking papers this morning...but sadly does not include cycling for at least 3 weeks until the strength is up in the ankle/leg. He is concerned more about if I have to stop or hop off suddenly rather than cycling itself.

But I will be in for the next one! Have a great time...sounds like a nice ride wink.gif
UrbanAngel
what've you done? sounds painful
Blimeygirl
@UA

I broke my ankle (tibia) two months ago...just got out of the cast today...but have to go to PT and I asked the doc about cycling today and he said probably after physio is done in about 2 - 3 weeks smile.gif
Shaggy
@Blimeygirl- hey at last!! congrats!! Shame you'll miss out sad.gif
Kat
sad.gif I wanna go, but my bike has disappeared! I was planning to go to the fleamarket to find a new one, but can't get that done before the ride starts. Does anyone have one I could borrow?
Or would a DB bike do for the trip, and does anyone know where I can find one of those near the start?
Tom17
Hey all, I think I will be coming along on this as well.. sounds like fun smile.gif
petal
Becs and I are looking at hiring bikes too. Any ideas anyone?
Darkknight
There are many unlocked bike at the trainstations, DB have a Bike shareing program (Free) besides those orange things... Just go and pick one up, no papers to fill out or anything... Just makesure you get it from the correct stand.
Tom17
We have 3 bikes between us and as Wendy is out of action as far as cycling goes, we have 2 spares. Kat has grabbed one so there is one left (wendy's). Petal you could try Wendy's bike for size if you like? Its a "Touring" bike so not really a mountian bike but should be fine for the type of cycling on Saturday...

@petal
You and Kat should pop round for a 'fitting' and choose the right one for you both smile.gif Sorry I cant help out with Becs, not enough spares i'm afraid :-(
randy
Sounds nice, and the weather seems good. Please put me down as a maybe... seeing what Sat. morning brings.
Shaggy
we just picked up a few more probables from the Stammtisch...should make us around 15.

Weather: High of 20 and sunny until late afternoon.
petal
OK, all sorted with bike now (thanks Blimeygirl, and thanks Tom for carrying it whilst cycling to the meeting point!!!). Looking forward to it.

Katrina - you are still coming, right???

See you all tomorrow.
butterbean
now here's a question: anyone planning on wearing their oh-so-flattering (not) bicycle shorts/pants?
petal
Yeah, come on boys...we want to see you in cycling shorts biggrin.gif
butterbean
it's not just the boys love - cycling for a few hours can be tough on our special places too...
DrivinWest
Just a heads up: Somebody should carrying an extra tube. With 30 tires there's a damn good chance of blowing one.
petal
Oh! Must avoid that at all costs! Not prepared to wear cycling shorts, though ph34r.gif Might stretch to pair of regular shorts, though. But beware...my legs have not seen the light of day yet this year. Be prepared to be dazzled by the whiteness! Bring sunglasses!
