Ok,
so where is the snow? All my colleagues were saying after the warm summer, winter would be evil... Well so far its not been too bad.
So when are we going to get our first night of proper snow? I mean snow that comes down, settles and is still there 24 hours later...
I WANT SNOW

Thank you

Mid January last year I spent three and a half hours on the runway at Munich airport, forced to watch an abominable Jackie Chan movie. :shudder:
I'm fairly certain things will get gnarly within the next 4-6 weeks. Especially after such a harsh summer. Just you wait...

There is already 1000 sq meters of
artificial snow in Munich.

We were just joking about this on the weekend. Munich must be the only city in the world where it can be -4C and still rain. I thought for sure it would snow this weekend for a little bit, but alas it didn't. Guess I have to go to the Alps (or Canada) for snow.

I'm with Keydeck - I don't like it, don't need it, don't want it.
OK. It can go on the mountains I guess but there is no need for it in the city.
Herr Indoors, seeing as he is from the Alps, loves snow but I say NAY TO SCHNEE.

It's still autumn, it's just a cold autumn. Winter starts in Jan, finishes in March. Snow is on the way, big time.

I want some snow. My best ever holiday in Germany was when it was about 4 feet deep in snow all the time.
We would clean the windscreen and by the time we were back in the car it was already snowed up again!
And if it's gonna be cold, there can at least be some snow for us to play with.
YEAH! And we can have a big TT snowball fight!!!

Don't you worry about it Big C - out where we live there is bound to be loads of snow. Last year was ace. I went out one time to go for a beer, and took a short cut over a field. Thigh deep. Bloody great!! I love the snow.

I got that beat. Just came in from Boston, where I was delayed for 3 days and still got to sit on the tarmac for 2 hours watching the baggage handlers slip around outside.
I love snow except when it's *me* who has to travel... LET IT SNOW!!!

Looking out my window, you WON'T be disappointed if it stays this way

Do you have a link for the Ski Jump event? I would like to check it out, just a hop, skip and jump to the Olympic Stadium for me. Are you jumping?
They have a toboggan (sp) ride near the stadium, rode it last year, give it a try, best done after several pints!

This morning at 8am driving to work none of the rpoads had been cleared. Not even the major roads. There was snow on the roads all the bloody way to work. Slipping and sliding around and crawling along at some painfully slow pace is not my idea of fun. Can´t believe I face the prospect of several months of getting up extra early on snow days. God dam pesky snow!

Well I love this snow. And I am not being ironic!
Last night I had to cycle from Deisenhofen to Manfallpatz U1 end station after our office Christmas meal. Through
Perlacher forest about 10km at 11pm - amazing experience. Fell off once by
Tengelmann owing to bad judgment of a kerb n the snow owing to over consumption of alcohol. Might have b*ggered my Goretex.
This morning Mangfallplatz to Oberhaching was atmospheric cycling through the trees. I only slipped once on the 7km run.

I with Jeremy here. Cycling through woods in the snow here is ace. It just looks so stunning.

Dec 16 2003, 11:28 am
Don do you slide, I mean ride through woods every day?
I have decided that the best way to cycle if you are bit pissed is not to drink less alcohol but to wear elbow pads!
Uncle Jamal
Dec 16 2003, 11:49 am
Pepper are you not from UK?? If so, do you not agree that the odd 5 or 10 minute delay is fairly reasonable given the frequent 45 minute delays that I and I assume you also used to experience in UK? If you're not from the UK, just ignore me...
don_riina
Dec 16 2003, 11:55 am
Jeremy
No, I do not ride every day, the journey to work would be a bit long for me!
You are spot on on the riding under the influence though!! I actually need no pads, as there is a biergarten near us which is accessible throuhg the woods, so if you fall off on the way home, its only mud and grass you hit, not blacktop!
Cycling pissed is a great great sport. Especially over rough ground in very low gears. Brilliant way to crash.

Don, my routine is every day:
7.38 U1 Gern to Mangfallplatz.
8.00 30 minutes cycling to Oberhaching outside Toytown.
I cycle through Perlacher Forst to and from work. It is fantastic. I heard a woodpecker one morning recently, just before his working material i.e., the tree got frozen!
I learnt the meaning of Zaun in Deutsch when I cycled by the river near Weiden where I lived for a year. Somewhat sloshed I went flying over the fence and landed on the other side!
Don't cycle wrecked in Toytown though. A Deutsch mate of mine was caught by Herr Plod and fined 1200 Teuros. Ouch.

I live in Garching, so don't cylce much in town - having said that though, the
English Garden extends almost all the way to Ismaning, so its a great ride back from town.
I've heard a woodpecker or two near my place, and have also seen hares, which I never saw back in England.
Wierdly, I have also seen a lizard out in the woods. I have no idea what type, and could only assume that somebody had released a pet or something. Could not have been native??
I sometimes find it a bit crap living outside of the city, and miss out on a lot of social stuff, but I would go nuts if I did not live near enough to some sort of nature where I could escape to. Lived in Barcelona, and really missed trees! Makes me sound like a hippy. Think I'll go listen to "Bron-y-Aur"
tra la la...

Lizard's are native. You get lizards (and even Scorpions) in UK.

I drive through Garching every morning on my way in to work in Ismaning - I come in from Haimhausen, and there I'm really out in the sticks. Many mornings when walking the dog I get to see hares, deer, the occasional fox, and a large number of red squirrels ( anyone from the UK remember seeing one of those ?? ) I regularly hear owls and woodpeckers, and see the odd eagle flying around overhead.
Whilst not exactly tame - the deer are not too frightened by the appearance of people - though they don't hang around long once they get a whiff of the dog ! This morning was great walking through the snow blizzard, the dog enjoying playing at "Snow Angels", and burying his head in the snow drifts !!, the fields white and clean - and me being the first one to walk through it !!! hehe - no churned up slush there !!

I know there are native lizards, but this little fellah was a tad too colourful to be native I thought. Unless he was living in a landfill site crammed with peoples castaway xmas decorations, his camoflage would have been crap!
