Trachten trends 2009 - Munich

How to look fesch at the Fest

Every Wiesn is a showcase for Tracht (traditional Alpine dress) and while you'll see many heritage styles, it can also be extremely fashion-oriented with different shades and shapes each year.
So what's in store now for Oktoberfest 2009?

This year's Loden-Frey Wiesn-Dirndl des Jahres as seen on billboards all around Munich, including in front of competitor Angermeier's main store may I add, combines a classic style of a tiny peacock print and detailed embroidery on the bodice with fashion colours such as mint green, royal blue, blackcurrant, silver grey, wheat and pistachio... yours for 368€ including the blouse (so dearer than last year's 299€).
In store, they have noticed a run on all sari fabrics, so bright silks, embroidery and sparkle is certainly big this year. Their outlet store can also be well worth a visit.

As with last year, the 1960s knee-length is the big seller, possibly even more so, but different lengths are offered as prinzipiell ist auch heuer wieder erlaubt, was gefällt (wear what you like).

Salzburg's Tracht maker Gössl reports another trend that you might see - aprons with a bias-cut hem.
So don't presume that the wearer has had a washing machine drama, it might be meant to look like that!

Angermaier has realised that many will be finding their purses a little more empty this year, so has created a complete Wiesn look (including the shoes) for 169€. Their trend colour is turquoise.

Another idea for the credit-crunched is to enliven an older Dirndl with new accessories - the black blouse trend is huge this year, especially the see-through variant: naughty, but oh so nice!
Using coloured blouses is another way to ensure this year's photos don't look like last year's, Angermaier has a fine selection of keenly priced ones, as do the Wiesn Tracht & Mehr branches.
Whether lace or frills, the fancier, the better, although tone-in-tone certainly has fans.

Changing your apron can also be a way to funk your look up, possibly picking up on that crazy hem trend, and Charivari-style charm belts have also been spotted. The petticoat, not just in white, also appears to be back - extra protection against Italian hands, girls!

Saucy ladies looking for lusty looks will get lucky at Ludwig. Beck that is.
The Sportalm Dirndls with PVC inserts on the bodice? Hot, hot, hot!

Of course, to wear such beautiful Dirndls, a woman needs to show off her assets to their best. With such a lot of Holz vor der Hüttn on show, Triumph's 2009 Dirndl-Wunder might be just the thing. Going up to a D Cup, the pretty details and plenty of ooompah might reduce your beer bill?

Happy shopping!

Earlier in the year, TT poster Keydeck photographed the Schatzi Tracht show - see pictures here.

Thanks for the update Katrina!

I think the Angermaier chick looks quite angry this year. I much prefer the wholesomely frolicking Loden-Frey girls.

Fabulous post, Katrina!
I've fallen in love with Angermaier's Dirndles!

If you want to see these trends live and on stage go to the Angermaier Nacht der Tracht tomorrow, Thursday 3 September, at the Schrannenhalle. No entry fee, live music, performance by the Schwulplattler.

I don't know if the world is ready for a Michael Jackson Dirndl ...
Katrina
Ew. I can only think how blinking hot and sweaty a white spangly glove would be in the tents... and slippy!
Good tip about the show though

Wow, that's going to look good. Do you mind me asking if you used the burda dirndl pattern? I was going to make one but I've realised that I don't have time to do a decent job of it in time for this year's fest.

I noticed that for the Scottish ladies Angermaier have a tartan dirndl - it is a darkish red (Royal Stewart or something like that?).

Yep, good old 8448.

Blimey, I wasn't aware that there were trends and stuff for Oktoberfest. Does that mean that people are looking at me thinking I'm really old fashioned when I wear the same old Dirndl every year? It cost me a good 300 Euro and I don't fancy splashing that out every year!

Having read this wonderful article, I might just update the outfit every year now though. I do fancy a sexier blouse and perhaps a new apron so maybe I'll go for it!

Great article, Katrina!

I'm so happy sarabyrd helped me find a dirndl! I wasn't aware of the trends either...

Good luck to all your drindel wearing fraus. My g/f ordered one online and was not able to zip it up compeletly cause of the size of her boobs. I thought that it was funny but she didn't. She will send it back and maybe we can look in some stores once I get back home.

If someone remembers what you were wearing the day before, much less year to year, they're not drinking nearly enough beer and thus missing the overall point. Their problem, not yours

It's Royal Stewart and yes I own this, bought a couple of years back, it's been a very canny purchase! Even wore it to my brother's wedding in NZ as my family is Scots, but I live here so was perfect.

For those feeling a bit skint, there's a new option this year: Penny Markt
Yes, really.
Available from Monday, the Lederhosen are 99 euros, dirndl sets for 49,99 (including the blouse and apron), men's shirts for a tenner and the socks for 3,99.
While you probably wouldn't go to the Trachtenverein in them, they aren't really dreadful and at least the Lederhosen are indeed leather. Not sure how you'd try them for size though!
The shirts are worth a look if you go a lot, they didn't feel too bad at all.
