Help sought for a job offer evaluation

Info about German taxes for an Italian resident

ccasagra
Dear all
I've just received a job offer from a German research Institute in Bremen; I'll be hired accordingly with the German TVOD contract E13/Stufe 4. Contract duration is 3 years with possibility to change it in permanent one.
I would like to know what will be my monthly/yearly gross and net salary.

I'm Italian and I'm currently living and working in Italy. I'm married and I've a 3 years old daughter (in March 2010 I'll be father for the second time). My wife is teacher in Italian primary school and at the moment she is not thinking to leave definetively her job so I'llprobably keep my family residence in Italy. Me and my wife are married with the italian fiscal option called "Separazione dei beni" (is that means that we have two separate incoming and we pay taxes separately for each relevant part; children could be shared at 50% or 100% to the parent with the highest incoming).

Accoridngly to that and information collected from several forums I've understood that I 've two options:

1) Transfer my residence in Bremen (be inscripted in the Italian AIRE list). I've in this way to pay taxes in German only. If my family members are Italian residents could I use the german tax reduction foreseen for family members ? (wife with a job + 1 children --> relevant yearly net salary ?)

2) Keep my residence in Italy; in that case I've to pay taxes in Germany. The total incoming needs to be declared in Italy as well and here I've to pay the relevant taxes difference (since taxes are highers).

Could you please help me in this offer evaluation. I've link to the following web site http://oeffentlicher-dienst.info/tvoed/bund/ and if I open the "Gehalstabelle 2009" for the proposed level I found 3900 euro. click on this number a new page is coming up where I found the following figures:

What is my monthly and yearly net salary (i.e yearly gross around 46000 or 95000) ?
How all the relevant "-" (minus values) are evaluated (for example Lohnsteuer Klass III,Krankenversicherung, etc...)
Please give me roughly data also because I need carefully to evaluate this offer in a few days.

Thanks a lot.

I´ve calculated this:

Monatsbeträge

Grundgehalt: 3900.31 €
sonstige Zulagen: 3900.00 €

steuerpflicht. Brutto: 8157.40 €
Lohnsteuer: - 2586.83 € (Klasse IV) You have to be class four. You can split 3 + 5 only if your wife pays taxes in Germany
Solidaritätszuschlag: - 142.28 €

Sozialvers. Brutto: 8228.89 €
Krankenversicherung: - 290.32 € (Satz: 14.9%) But you are allowed to insure privately which should be much cheaper
Pflegeversicherung: - 45.02 €
Rentenversicherung: - 537.30 €
Arbeitslosenvers.: - 75.60 €
Zus.vers. VBL: - 109.98 € (AN: 1.41%, AG: 6.45%)

Abzüge gesamt: - 3787.34 € (Anteil: 48.6%)

Monats-Brutto: 7800.31 €

netto bleiben: 4012.97Your net income per month

I should charge money for giving advice to people with that income

Dear Frank78

thank you for your reply.

This is really a woundrful news because I was thinking to a monthly gross salary of 3900 euro; what is the additional "sonstigen zulagen".

A montlhy gross salary of 7800 euro is closing immediately my evaluation.....I'm flying to Bremen immediatelly !

Thanks a lot

Oh I just took the "sonstige Zulagen" from your post. I do not know if you get them. "Zulagen" means additional money for families and children of "Beamte". I was a bit surprised that it was that much.

Let me calculate again without "Zulagen"

Monatsbeträge

Grundgehalt: 3900.31 €

steuerpflicht. Brutto: 4005.85 €
Lohnsteuer: - 878.42 € (Klasse IV)
Solidaritätszuschlag: - 48.31 €

Sozialvers. Brutto: 4077.34 €
Krankenversicherung: - 290.32 € (Satz: 14.9%)
Pflegeversicherung: - 45.02 €
Rentenversicherung: - 405.70 €
Arbeitslosenvers.: - 57.08 €
Zus.vers. VBL: - 54.99 € (AN: 1.41%, AG: 6.45%)

Abzüge gesamt: - 1779.85 € (Anteil: 45.6%)

Monats-Brutto: 3900.31 €

netto bleiben: 2120.46 € Here you go

This sounds more realistic. Otherwise all people would become "Beamte".

The German tax man is a hungry guy....

Dear guys

what I have to take as reference

is the "Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst (2009), Bund, Tarifgebiet West " for E13/Stufe4 no others value.
My wife is working in Italy and pay taxes here so Klass IV, confirmed (as per Frank78 remarks)
I've a 3 years daugther, could have I some tax reduction even if she is Italian resident ?

So, if I correctly undersdtanding the yearly gross salary that I've to consider is 3900 x 12 month + 3900 x 0,6 (as 13 month) = 48960.
This means a net monthly salary at about 2100 euro/month.

Now I've to do completely difference conclusion since if "Zulagen" are zero I've a monthly salary that is only a couple of hundred euro more that the one I currently have and it takes no sense move to Bremen for the offered job.

Thanks a lot

Regards
