Anyone can teach me?

Elfin
Hi you computer experts,

Can anyone teach me SAP R/3 or have an english book that I can buy/borrow? I am willing to pay but it is not much. Can also offer tandem German instead. Thank you.

Hi,
I, too, would like to learn SAP R/3 so I've been searching around on the Internet for online sources. I've found one that looks quite good and in English.
http://computercoach.com/sap_r3_release_46_online_course.php but I opted for a training CBT DVD with SAP Basic and SAP R/3 from http://www.thespot4sap.com/CBT/CBT.htm. I should get it any day now. Good luck with your search.

@Effin - no, not really. I don't think it is possible to actually learn SAP R/3 from a book or be learn it from someone.

Even if you take the courses you will be missing the working experience which is what enables you to do a job using the software.

The whole SAP area is a complicated thing (more so as no one will tell you much about it)... There are also a lot of different roles in the SAP world, from Admin to programmer.

Asking to learn SAP R/3 is like saying you want to learn science - it is more complicated than that (SAP is not as complicated as science is but can make as much sense...)

If you are unemployed and eligible for help from the employment service you could see if they will pay for a course for you.

As cb6dba already pointed out, you have to specify what part of SAP R/3 you are interested in. Are you interested in any of the modules, to make head or tail of it, you already have to be an expert in the respective functional area. If you want to learn Programming, it is easy if you know programming languages like COBOL, C, and C++.

Ditto what he said about Arbeitsamt (employment service).

hi all,

I don't know any programming language unfortunately. Would it help if I say I would like to learn HR module?

I am on maternity leave and at some point need to go back to work. Knowing the situation at the moment, I need to come up with some tricks up in my sleeve otherwise they will not hesitate to make me redundant! Help ;o)

@Elfin - the first thing the Arbeitampt will ask you is which area of R/3 you are interested in.

Not wanting to sound rude but you seem to have little idea regarding R/3. I do not mean that in a negative way as it is important to understand if you have little or no idea. SAP stuff is an area where trying to sound like you know about something when you don't will just make you look dumb. Sorry, but that is my experience.

However, do not be out off if you want to follow the path to hell, sorry, this exciting road to a new career.

The SAP world is broken up into various areas, the most broad being Basis consultant and Administrator. Some poeple go in to programing (if you want to go nito programing you will need to learn java and ABAP).

To further complicate the situation, you can split people who use SAP into two very broad groups. End users who bang their heads on the table when ever the system is down/slow and those that work behind the front end and bang their heads on the table when they have to deal with the end users

My advice would be to go to the arbeitampt and say that you have seen a lot of jobs advertised for SAP. DO not try to wing this by pretending you know about the stuff. My careers contact at the Westhafen arbeitampt knew more about it than I did. She asked me which area of SAP I was interested in...... I sat there like a dumb struck 17 year old at my first interview for a trainee photographer position after learning it would be for 'glamour' models....

Just say you do not know much about the various modules/areas but maybe a basis course would provide you with a grounding in the subject.

On the plus side, once you get a foot in the door of the SAP world you may find your career options will be better. However you also have to understand this is not something you can master in a few months, let alone 3 to 5 years. The software changes all the time and there are a lot of other things you have to deal with (don't get me started on just trying to download updates.....).

Just accept that any course you get will only give you the basic idea of what is going on and the rest will have to come fro experience.

Also be prepared to take on the role of knowledge dentists as trying to get info from some people is like pulling teeth at times....

Are you sure you are not an expert on this ;o)

I shall check with the Arbeitsamt. But surely Dresden offers better options considering American cos down there.

My knowledge consists of only what I have read from the books, no experience whatsoever. But I am very confident when it comes to learning something new. I just thought about attending the basic course but it is very expensive ;o( for me.

If you get a basic course through the arbeitampt it won't cost you anything

I am not an expect, an SAP expert doesn't exist - a little like world peace except one day we have world peace.

There are a few companies in Dresden that use SAP products but there are a lot of IT (and SAP) people looking for work. All you can do is apply for positions etc.

Start with the arbeitampt and see where you get to from there.
