Moving to Berlin while pregnant

Advice on taxes and health care etc.

Cam
Here's my situation, my husband has found employment in Berlin.
Our plan is to move here a round october, as I'll be on maternity leave for a year in my job in the UK.
Meaning once we'll be in Germany, I won't be working (and if we like it here, I will quit my job in the UK and become a full time house wife). So with regards to my husband's tax code would he still be under tax code 3? Plus as I'll be receiving my statutory maternity pay in UK to my up to 6 mths in my UK bank account, would I be considered as someone receiving no income under the German tax code? or as a partner working with a lower income than my husband? as this will affect his net pay and ultimately our decision to relocate.

Also as I will be over 6 mth pregnant when I'm in Berlin, how do I go about being on the health care system? and finding myself a English speaking Mid wife or Gynocologist? As myself and my husband do not speak German and we don't know anyone in Germany. As this is my first pregnancy, I am of course concerned and worried I won't be able to find the care I need.

Thanks for any advice....

Not sure if this is helpful but we're doing English birth preparatory classes on the 16th-18th Oct at the Geburtshaus Charlottenburg. They also have some evening classes starting in Oct.

I'm actually flying over this weekend to start my new life in Germany. Is there another one at a later date as that would be very helpful to me? as I don't know anyone there and can't speak the language so I know that I have a lot to learna dn pick up....

Yes, according to the site linked above there's also an evening course from October 22 to November 26. It's under "Geburtsvorbereitung engl./span."

Hello Cam,

I'm organising a workshop on everything you need to know about having a baby in Berlin which will be run by a native English-speaking midwife. If you're interested in coming along send me a PM and I'll pass on all the details. I first arrived in Berlin from China when I was 30 weeks pregnant and I didn't have a clue what was going on! Everything turned out just fine and I'm sure it will for you too.

Wishing you a good start to your new life in Berlin!

Best wishes,
Melanie
