Disposal of an old washing machine

How and where to dump broken appliances

My washing machine is rather old, only works when it wants to and occasionally leaks, so I've decided to get a new one, but does anyone know what to do with the old one? I don't know anyone with a big enough vehicle to transport it and even if I did, I wouldn't know where to take it to...

I've heard of a place in Grosshadern by the beer garden sort of on the way to Neuried where you can dump such stuff.

I'm pretty sure my missus did this just before we moved in together. She had an old sofa, which she could have taken down the Werkstoffhof if she had the transport - which she didn't.

I just phoned home: She called the Stadtwervaltung Info Centre on 089 233 96 200 and asked for the Sperrmüll service. They charge a fee, but will come and collect your washing machine.

Good luck smile.gif

That's the Werkstoffhof BR.

If you're buying a new machine you might find that the shop you buy it from will dispose of the old one for you (probably for a small fee).

can you dump washing machines there? - I'm thinking of chucking ours out

If you live in Munich you can arrange collection and disposal here. You do have to pay, of course

Often, when buying a new machine, the seller may do deal to take away the old one when delivering the new. They may also charge however.

You can get general information on rubbish collection/disposal here

Yep - they'll take any old rubbish (apart from Halon fire extinguishers - I discovered). Nearly wouldn't let me leave once blink.gif

Diakonia will come and collect it for FREE from your appointment. Then they fix it up (has their own workshop staffed by former addicts, the disabled or the formerly homeless to get them back into work and get them their qualifications) and sell it (in their shop on the Landsberger Allee staffed by the same folk).
If they can't fix it, they get rid of it for you.
It's FREE and they will take anything.

I called Diakonia and they want €50 to take my washing machine. And all that is wrong with it is that the button is broken. Does anyone know of how much it would cost to bring it to a dump ??

I think this page says I can dump it for free in certain places. no ?

I dumped a load of old electrical goods, monitors, stereos VCR's etc in the Berlin Recycling Ceentre this year and it was all free. I believe from march 2006 they must provide a free service... I stand corrected if this is not true...

yes, false, as discussed in length and at depth. You can dump a washing machine for free at any of the dumps in Munich (they open alternate weeks, so make sure to pick one that is open) for Munich city residents. Either make sure your car registration plates are from Munich city rather than Munich Land or you have an Anmeldebescheinigung with you, just in case they kick up a fuss.

off to the dump I go.

You can't bring washing machines to these ones
