German - English Language exchange

English - German Exchange

Plutard
Hi, I have been in Munich a little while and am really struggling with the language. Subsequently, I am looking for a language exchange partner. I have tried the language school approach which was not very successful so I am looking for a new one. So if you are or know of a patient German speaker who wants to exchange their German skills for my English then it would be really great to hear from you. My plan would be to meet a couple of times per week for a chat and coffee. So if interested please, please contact me.

Hi
I came to Germany 20 years ago without knowing more than the very very very basics of the language. Your approach seems sensible, and I wish you luck finding someone here. If that does not work, there are some other possibilities that I found useful.
It is worth checking publications that are read more by Germans, like Kurz und Fündig and the "what's on" type magazines that carry adverts - Prinz and whatever the other one(s) are called. Also the Süddeutsche occasionally carries ads at the weekend from Germans who want to improve their English.
There are also various Stammtische with a greater number of Germans who want to exercise and/or improve their English than English native speakers. A few are East of the River (every second Tuesday), the Thursday Talking Table and the GEA/GEIST. The latter have a regular event on Fridays called "Deutsch mit Freunden" for learners of German. Apart from the intention of these meetings, there is always the chance of finding a German you can continue meeting separately.
Information (location, dates) can be found here: http://www.munichfound.com/find_it/clubsandgroups/
Good luck! (or should I say "Viel Erfolg!"?)
