Hi,

The good weather is coming and it is time to dust down the bike and get into the mountains.

I am looking for some similiarly minded individuals male or female (20-35) looking to have some fun and organise some weekend trips around Munich or surroundings.

I have a Marathon Full (10.5kg) and looking to build up my fitness. Variety of short climbs, long single trails, and some distance (eg Munich -> Sternberger See)
Intermediate level.

I have 3 bike racks and a combi so no problem to also head out of the city with upto 5 bikes.

If you are interested let me know :-)

Stephen

Hey Stephen,

Definitely up for some riding... especially given this Tegernseer thing coming up, and the fact that I have a 300k (road) ride in Sweeden the week after!

Will be going riding this weekend, but may stay on the road, given the dampness... What about next Sunday?

Oh yeah, and I have the Moser Bike Guide for the area South of MUC, in case we need inspiration!

@ spatton,

Keep an eye on the Tegernsee marathon thread for now as some of us will be doing some training rides for that. But training rides dont always have to be flat out madness, on Sunday I wend for a fairly leisurely ride (though intending to train at the same time smile.gif ).

Also, going by previous years board activity, most people planning on going out on the bikes will likely post on here if its to be a group thing.. so just keep a look out on here and you are sure to find what you are looking for.

About the bike rack thing... are you willing to try doing the downhill trails in the mountains? I saw there were a fair few trips to them last year but I wasnt able to get to any of them... A car is good for this smile.gif
tench
Missed out on this tegernsee thing. What's it about?

Am up for some mtb though, so if you're going anywhere, let me know! cheers.

Hello,
Everyone must be out on the trail b/c this thread is pretty quiet. I just found a mountain bike and would love to get off of the asphault! I missed the Isar trip because of prior commitments. Let me know if there are any other trips planned!
Eurobill
colin stewart
Yes, interested in getting out as well but for more mountain type loops as opposed to Isar sight seeing cool.gif I like the x-country stuff with good climbs and interesting descents. Anyone up for some Garmish or Mittenwald trails next Saturday?
kit
Would love to meet up if you guys come down here to Garmisch or even over to Mittenwald.

I've been scouting out a lot of the trails lately but perhaps someone else knows them better. Not a lot of single-track that I have found, but lots of steep up and downhills on fire roads and hiking trails.

I could probably put together a 3-4 hour ride with a mix of off and on-road.

I'd be up for heading down to garmisch for the day.

Also stumbled across this:

I have done the Karwendelhaus trip and it really is amazing. Recommend it.

Hello,

My first post to TT actually, my name's Erik. smile.gif I'm also very interested in mountain biking day trips with a little more alpine flavor, and going with folks who know where the good stuff is. Am in the process of getting myself a bike in the next few weeks, and after that, will check if anyone's got a ridin' trip planned.

Cheers!
lurch
I'd be up for this too, I wouldn't mine driving down there either.
jeremy
I can give you a "Geheimtipp" - go tto Kaiserhaus in Austria. You park the car in Steinberg and cycle along a special track which only opens up every two hours in your direction. Great trip. I did it in the car this weekend but that was a bit crazy considering the road conditions. Better on the bike!

Is this some evil magic from the elves at work? ohmy.gif
kit
Tench and co...although the estimated ride time gives me pause, the Mittenwald route looks pretty interesting. It *appears* that most of the climbing is fairly spread out.

Also, you guys might be interested in the Garda mtb festival at the end of the month. I am probably going down if anyone is interested in caravaning: http://www.bike-festivals.de/

Sounds like the makings of a plan for Saturday... ohmy.gif

Shall we keep ourselves in the loop and make firmer plans on Friday?
guattang
Hi Colin,

'fraid I cannot make this Saturday - I gota work huh.gif ( and I don't fit spatton's profile sad.gif ) ... but hopefully next time.
colin stewart
So Kit & I are going to meet at the KREUZECKBAHN parking lot at 10am this Saturday. We are thinking of about a 4 hour MTB circuit with some reasonable ascent and nice single track down hills - nothing too mental. Whether or not the 4 hours will include the beer stop can be an item for disussion smile.gif

So who else is up for it?
lurch
Me, definitely! smile.gif
Crotaline
?Kruezeckbahn? Is there a Burger King there so i can load up beforehand? Ill need some extra fat and meat to complete the day.
lurch
How are we doing this? I can drive down there and could get a couple more in with me ... seems silly to drive down on ma tod! dry.gif
colin stewart
Lurch,
Sounds good - can I come with you then? smile.gif
lurch
no problem ...anyone else? biggrin.gif
eriiki tubbs
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it as I'm still without a bike... But come my next paycheck, and the beginning of May, I'll be all set, and in hope that there will be more planned rides! Have fun out there. cool.gif
Crotaline
I might head down tonight, but I could use a ride back if there is room.

As I'm still undecided, you'll know tomorrow, just dont reserve a seat for me. I'd hate to exclude someone just on my indecision.

Kit said it snowed on him yesterday, and I dont much care for bike-snowing, especially combined with lots of climbing.

I guess you will see me tomorrow if I get there. (I'll need to take this dress off and find my manhood beforehand... whaaaaaaaaaa...)

Anyone have a recommended pack list? I usually travel with my 3-litre camelback and a ton of stuff. (Adding to the turtle-like speed at which i normally climb, or even ride.)

Eriiki

Hejsan. There are plenty of people who ride often, and even a few of us (Pat the Swede? Where are you ?) who have done road trips to Leogang and other places. Welcome and enjoy your stay.
colin stewart
Pack list?

Hip flask of one of the following - Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Glen Farclas & cask strength preferred wink.gif
Crotaline
Damn... and I just finished my Abelour a'bundah cask strength.
lurch
I'll bring some Aberlour... it's just the normal stuff though... I had some wonderful Bunnahabhain...15 year old caste strength ...unfortunately it seems to have evaporated in the last couple of days biggrin.gif
UrbanAngel
jeez Lurch! And you wonder why I thought to buy you whisky as a present and not something else..?!!
Crotaline
yeah the Aberlour 10 and the Balblair 16 are currently my favorites. After blowing thru the A'bundah cask strength, I am more a fan of the slightly less 'rocket-fuel' scotches.

And booze is always a good gift, especially when its good booze.
wink.gif
colin stewart
Last call folks biggrin.gif

10am tomorrow at the Kreuzeckbahn parking near to Garmish for a MTB ride of about 4hours + beer + banter laugh.gif
spatton
Guy's hope you enjoyed the ride in Garmish.
Sorry I started this thread but been quiet as I've been traveling last 3 weeks aqnd not been online. Anyway just back from 1 week in Tel Aviv this morning.

I would be up for making some plans for next weekend.
colin stewart
Hey Spatton ... lurch, Crotaline, kit,

Here's some photos from the Garmish trip and also some more from another loop today above Tegernsee.
kit
Highlights from the ride:

-Lurch was first up all the climbs riding a single speed (!) with skateboard shoes (!!)

-Lurch and Colin both brought flasks of whiskey along for the ride

-The whiskey was good

-Crotaline brought two Burger King cheeseburgers for fuel

-Kit ate half of one and it was good

-We ogled a 'pro' looking German mtb chick

-Crotaline crashed near the end b/c he was in a hurry to get his Weissbier

-Good riding, good company, great scenery

-Total ride time, including several stops was 7:20
lurch
It's whisky, NOT whiskeeeeey... Shesus! wink.gif

Great ride though! biggrin.gif Do it all again soon!
SleeplessInMunich
Well that all depends on where it comes from. If its Irish, then its whiskey. Otherwise its whisky.
Onni

Well, that fake stuff from US is also spelled whiskey... and you guys aren't doing fairplay - wasn't whisky on the list of forbidden substances issued by the IOC Medical Comission? laugh.gif

But hey, I'ld love to join you guys for a tour during one of the next weekends smile.gif
kit
Bourbon whiskey you heathens!

mixed with coke... ph34r.gif
Crotaline
Beam... ick. I prefer MAKERS MARK with one ice cube.

Great pics! Jelaous I missed it mellow.gif
tench
So anyone up for a repeat performance this weekend? Or maybe at another venue?
colin stewart
Yeah - Saturday.

Somewhere out of the Moser Guide Vol1 (Tegernsee area)?

Wouldn't mind an early start because of a Rolfing party later wink.gif

Only thing we need to find is more steep single track ohmy.gif
Crotaline
Not for me. I'd love to, but the wife has her birthday friday, and I've the feeling I wont be up for much, and then theres the rolfing party on Sat. I might be there for the road ride on Sunday though.
canuck
Where did you guys end up going exactly on your Saturday trip? Did you get up to Krezeuckhaus or Hochalm? Is there any snow up there still...I'm thinking of doing some riding or hiking there next weekend..

EDIT...OK I see the link with pics..shite..

I'm in! Tegernsee area sounds good, another possibility would be e.g. a tour around the Estergebirge (as described in the second book of Moser, chapter 25), but I'm not sure is it snow-free...
tench
OK, weather forecast looks promising for saturday! smile.gif

Tegernsee sounds fine to me (providing I can get a lift down there) rolleyes.gif
The bigger the hills the better!
Onni
Ok guys, who else would like to join? And where and when should we meet?
I have a combi and could drive, but unfortunately I have no bike rack.

I can't wait for the first MTB ride of the year - my legs are itching already smile.gif
colin stewart
I'm interested - let's synch up tomorrow afternoon and decide on location.
spatton
Can also count on me.
I have a combi and bike rack.
Bannockburn
So who do we have - spatton, omni + me? unsure.gif

The Moser Vol2 tour #25 looks good. I think the snow line is still about 1400m and the highest points on this are comfortably less than that. Starting at Eschenloh (end of Garmish auotbahn) and doing a clockwise loop through Eschenlainetal, south and west over the Rotenkopf/Wank hills, then back north to the start. 56km & approx 5 hours. Early start?

Also taken by tour #29 in the same Moser guide but there's still probably too much snow at the highpoint on this one just now (1800m).
