After all the drama of the 6 Nations we now have the opportunity to watch two local teams clash in a local derby match.
München RFC play host to Studentenstadt München at the
Bezirkssportanlage in Großhadern.
First up at 12:30pm are the second XVs, who are competing in the Bayernliga.
The main event at 2:30pm is the 2. Bundesliga match played by the first XVs.
Does anyone fancy coming along to this match and enjoying a beer on a (hopefully) sunny afternoon?

Would be nice to see a fair crowd down there. Some of touch rugby players will be going down after the game. I hope the weather holds out.

Will be there graham playing for the seconds despite my broken collarbone!

No tackling just helping them as most have only a few months experience.Think they are aiming to play the Bundes Liga match first then get the Regional game on after.Stusta are mainly a mixture of Germans, French, Spanish, East Europeans and myself when not breaking my bones!Munich RFC are alot more experienced and are favourites with many Expats from England, Ireland, New Zealand as well as a couple of Germans.
If anybody would like to come to Stusta and help run the second team and help the guys especially in the forwards where many have little experience in the scrums etc would be great.Coming from a Rugby League background its awkward for me to tell somebody what to do in Union having only played around 10-15 games myself!I can help them tackle etc but the rules and technical details I have little idea!Training is Tuesday and Thursday at 1830hrs in the English Garden 2 minutes walk from from the Ubahn station there walk through the Student accommodation area till you come to English Garden.

@Dally M - this could be fun 'cos we are clearly gonna have a little TT members head-to-head then!!!
I am playing for Munich II on Sunday (my talents have clearly yet to be spotted by the 1st team!).
Kick off now switched to 2.30pm for II's I think so you can select your own TT member to cheer from either side

just kidding.
i don't reckon StuSta stand a chance in hell against the RFC, especially the first team.
Mind you, you could have a word with some of your first team players and ask them very nicely for me if they perhaps wouldn't mind losing this match, thus giving StuSta some vital points to help avoid relegation.
this is the current table:

Mate Im just giving the lads a bit of support as my collarbone was broken 4 weeks ago so no tackling just trying to give some leadership on the field. Most have only played 3 or 4 matches.Probably play FB or something.Main thing is the guys learn and enjoy.Stusta first team are full of players who have only been playing 3 or 4 years so to be a 2nd Bundes Liga side is amazing for a club 5 years old.Only one team gets relegated so we are hoping its Karlsruhe. We only have to play karlsruhe away and yourselves and the 5 home games should see us win against offenbach and HTV and maybe Köln depending so we have a good chance of survival!

well, things have changed again. The second team match has now been cancelled.

Thought is was worth mentioning that much fun was had watching this game. Munich RFC played some good rugby (despite having a turncoat of an Outside Half) and thoroughly deserved their easy victory.
Apparently the second team match was cancelled because the groundsman would only allow one match that day on the pitch. Anyone that was there will confirm that the pitch was in fantastic condition. Well it would be if no-one is ever alllowed to play on it, wouldn't it.
Johnny English
Apr 11 2005, 3:26 pm
twas indeed pathetic to not allow 2 matches. probably avoids driving his car 'cos it uses up the tyre rubber...although in fact even that is not a could analogy because grass regrows.

there are a few home more home matches this season for both MRFC and StuSta. Anyone fancy making this a regular sunday afternoon beery TT event?

Apr 11 2005, 6:43 pm
Stusta normally play Saturdays.Face Köln on Saturday believe at 1600hrs and then face HTV from Heidelberg the following week at 1430hrs.Poor performance by Stusta and can play alot better but miss a number 10 after the Irish guy who plays now for Munich gave them a weeks notice at the start of the season he was going to Munich-despite Stusta doing alot for him.
One of the reasons they are struggling!Full credit to Munich who showed the level Stusta must reach to be competitive in the League.Stusta are still looking good to stay up however as Karlsruhe remain bottom and have played a game more and have a negative near 100 points difference compared to Stusta!

Yeah, a little tight but one player doesn't make a team.

you are right, Beg tets, one player doesn't make a team. But Outside half is a key position for any team. A good one can carry a team, a bad one break a team. StuSta lacked a quality kicker, the kicks they made resulted in lost possession and no gains.
This wasn't the only problem position StuSta had. Yes, they needed an outside half, then 10 moves to 12, 12 moves to 13 and 13 (who was wearing 24) is out. Tackling needed to be improved as well, throughout the line.
The forwards lacked a throwing hooker, cohesion at the breakdown and didn't use any "pod" tactics, but rather trudged round the whole pitch as one pack.

So really more to do with the distribution of various 'specialist' skills in a developing side with developing players as opposed to any shortcomings. Munich rarely put the same back line, or pack for that matter, out two games in a row but as the team is largely made up of nationals from countries where rugby is learned from an early age, most of the boys are experienced enough to play in at least a couple of positions (at last count I've worn the 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 jersey for Munich with varying levels of success). The depth of skills will only improve with time and experience - look how far Stu-Stadt have come in the last few years. Hats off and every success to them for the rest of the season.

Apr 12 2005, 2:18 pm
very true, they have come far for such a young club. Now is the time for some consolidation. They definately need help with technical skills (any forwards and defensive coaches out there want to help?).

Stusta are not strugging just because they lost a Number 10. It does not matter how good your 10 is, if you can't win the lineouts or get the ball to him in the first place then its very difficult for him to play.
The biggest problem stusta have it that they seem to concentrate on the wrong games (the ones against MRFC). If stusta focus on the correct games and play like they do against MRFC then they will have no problem staying in the 2nd division. I just hope for the sake of rugby in Munich, that they get another win or so under there belts.
They have some good players, that just need to focus and show some leadership.
For this season they really got to look at the game against Karlshrue, Offenbach , RGH 2 and HTV. They just need one win to stay up. Then they can build on that.

Was that directed at the comments about Stu Stadt or at the people slagging you off for changing teams?
STEVE DUFFY
Apr 18 2005, 1:49 pm
That was directed at the people slagging me off for changing teams . I think they would all do well not to forget that i didnt miss a game for a whole year for them and helped them gain promotion to the league which they are now in. I went on holidays to ireland last summer in august & had told all in stusta that i was considering the swap. I came back to find that my signature had been forged for a player pass and as a result of wanting to play with munich i had to sit out a 6 month ban. I had a decent time at stu sta and i think that i and the club both benefited from my time there . The reason one plays a sport is to enjoy it and if that enjoyment is gone then there is no point continuing. I stopped enjoying my time in stu sta long before they gaines promotion to the 2nd bundesliga but decided to see the campaign out. i would really be interested in knowing your true identities gentleman.

I havent hid my feeling from anyone be it Stusta or Munich and have told people I wasnt happy what happened.I had spoken to many people involved and also run the club at Stusta that he had left us with a week to go-which is why I am annoyed with Steve.I would rather me and Steve sorted the problem out now privately than it being just a slagging match which doesnt do anybody any good.I dont think I have said anything wrong and if I have,-I apoligize to Steve.Have sent him a PM and hope he sees where I am coming from.I would rather again be friends with Steve as he is a good lad.He also is a talented player and have no problem with him playing for Munich-just the circumstances he left us as I understand from speaking to many people there.
