Here's the progression of the world record in the 100m:

Looks like Tyson Gay's second-place finish at 9.71 seconds is the third-fastest 100m time in history.

My next door neighbor and his wife were up all night drinking and having a great party and someone set off a fire cracker. It was brilliant. I was very happy he ran as fast as he did because otherwise I wouldn't have got any free rum. God it was good. When the fire cracker went off Big Jim shot off across the room like it was a race. The laughter I tell you was mighty. Oh we were enjoying the craic until nearly ten o'clock. When we heard Tyson was out of the 200 there was a huge cheer. Go Bolt Go!

I was there too, fantastic . We don't get an obvious timer like on TV so there's about a 10 second lag until everyone clocks the time and goes slack-jawed. Is that actually a 5? 9.5.8. Oh.my.god. Came right on the back of a British gold medal and two German medals too, crazy 15 minutes.
The three days I was were great entertainment. Hardly sold out, though, so anyone in Berlin who wants to see some top-class sport. I bet tickets are scarce for the Thursday double-header (Bolt over 200 and top local hope Friedrich) though.
