Well, I read the old topics and there were people from Lübeck, just thought to open a new topic to see if those people are still there.
I am 23 and from Ireland. Here since like 2 months but my fiance is German and she started working and its getting quite lonely.
Give us a shout

Hey,
I'm Irish too. I'm studying in the University for the next few years. I've only been here 4 weeks so far. I'm definitely interested in meeting any and all native English speakers in Luebeck (there don't seem to be that many).
Dave.

Hi Mark and Dave,
I'm in Kiel, rather than Lubeck working as an English teacher. Been here one week, and getting very lonely. Some english-speakers would definately perk me up. Hope to hear from you.

Rich,
Next weekend's no good for me but the following one I have no plans yet. If I can find some people to share the ticket I could even go up to Kiel. I want to see what it's like up there.
This is definitely a lonely part of the country for native speakers to end up. I thought I was moving to the outskirts of Hamburg. It should pick up when the universities open again but that's not until the second half of October.
Dave.

I _did_ end up on the outskirts of Hamburg and yes, it can be quite lonely. I'm in Schleswig-Holstein, Norderstedt to be precise, but somehow there just isn't really much of a community for the anglophone expats in the northern German cities I have encountered; not even in Hamburg. The international churches have their own communities, but that is about all really. I have found other parts of the country, especially Berlin, to be much more prone to expat community-building. Maybe people here are just integrating better... who know?
Anyway:
Although I'm based a good hour or so from both Kiel and Lübeck, and life keeps me busy, I could be interested in a meet-up some time. Maybe the German stammtisch idea isn't a bad one for Schleswig-Holstein's English speakers...

I've gotten a Stammtisch going in Luebeck. I've also setup a social networking site specific to meeting people in Luebeck. We meet every Thursday in Cole Street Bar, at number 18 Beckergrube, from 8pm until about 11pm. It's an english-speaking Stammtisch as opposed to a native english speakers one The website is
Luebeck Social Community.
But we could also have a get together on occasions for the native speakers. There is, as I'm sure we all know, a big difference.
Dave.
