Working in Alpine ski resorts

Finding work for the next skiing season

poloking
Hi I am new to Toytown germany forums but have had a bit of experience reading through the useful forums.

I am quarter german and have always wanted to get my german up to a high standard. I am taking a year out now before going to university and I am really interested in working a winter season in a german, austrian or swiss ski resort. I have beginners german although have spent quite a few weeks with german relatives this year improving.

Does anyone know how easy it would be for me to get a job working with either the company that owns the resort/ski area or a hotel/chalet serving the area. Will it be very difficult to get any kind of work, all i want is a job that will keep me alive while i am in germany. Also does anyone know the best route to get a job of this sort.

I apologise that I am also including switzerland and austria in this post but I may also post this on the website forums for those countries too.

thanks in advance for any help

Probably not, but since nobody has ever seen him, I thought I would bump him up a bit - he´s worked sooo hard this past week, poor luv!

As for working in ski resorts, I´m not sure how much this guys´English would improve through it - doing bar/hotel work doesn´t necessarily help you to improve your language skills IMHO!

yes i am aware that the actual job will not assist much in improving my german. However I can sucessfuly talk to people in conversation and any time out of work talking to german speaking people would definately improve my grammar and vocabulary.

Thanks for the previous post, is there anyway to get work with german companies or is that too difficult without excellent german.

An honest answer has to be "I dunno", but how about looking up some of the ski hotels in the resorts that particularly interest you on the internet, and applying directly to them for a job?

(was just a thought about the language stuff - seriously though, the best way to learn the language is to be absolutely surrounded by it, so good luck!)

Do you even have the necessary working permit to work over in a foreign country??? That would be a 1st thing to look into...without the proper work visa...it could be very difficult!

hi yeah i am a british citizen and so i just need to register my stay when i arrive.

Im sorry i didnt mean to be rude robinson100 i was just stating my reasoning. I wish of course that I could work in a job that will entirely immerse myself in german however this will be very difficult and I just hope that I can manage improve my german as much as I want.
