Family-friendly hemp maze just north of Munich

At Garching/Hochbruck U-Bahn until 27.Sep.2009

I didn't believe it either, but there is a family-friendly Hempfest happening all summer just north of Munich. Below is the link for the English-language webpage for the event.

My question: How does anyone ever find their way OUT of the maze?

Website: freizeitpark-im-hanffeld.de

The „Hemp Theme Park“ is a green place of excursions for the whole family. Hemp, the plant which is used here, is on the one hand shrouded in legend and extraordinary. On the other hand it is a lasting plant which is very useful for the environment: Hemp counts as a renewable resource and it is harvested and processed environmentally after the season. On an acreage of the size of almost seven soccer fields a tricky maze with an attractive aerial image cut into the field.

Oh my goodness, I saw this the other day and questioned my German skills thinking i'd got it wrong!

Might just have to pedal our way down there one day and play in the maze...!

Maybe we should plan a TT outing here????

Has anyone actually been here? I am having a tough time thinking it is real, and also curious as to what exactly goes down there. Can anyone help shed some light on the matter?

The crop is actually hemp not marijuana, although both are members of the cannabis family...

stupid question time....

Can you smoke this or all types of hemp...or is this from a different strain that we cannot?

Why shouldn't it be real? Hemp is grown commercially in large quantities. They could have created a maze in any tall crop, but chose hemp, presumably for the promotional side of things.

The answer to your question is to be found in the link provided in the post above yours.

Strains of Cannabis approved for industrial hemp production produce only minute amounts of this psychoactive drug, not enough for any physical or psychological effects.

Off course you can smoke it. But you will probably get higher from rolling up an old carpet and smoking that.

It is pure torture for me to walk past this place every day knowing full well that you simply cannot smoke it - particularly yesterday morning when it smelt delicious.

Kind of makes a mockery of the law though in my eyes. Why can't I do the same thing in my garden, but with a slightly different strain of hemp? Would hurt nobody.

We went to the maze a couple of weeks ago, and it was actually a lot of fun! We were there on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too busy, but there were enough visitors for a nice friendly atmosphere.

There are a couple of refreshment stands and an activity tent for the older children (when we were there they were collecting stones and painting them). Although all outdoors, there was an empty marquee tent with picnic benches, which I presume was to provide shelter in case it rained. Our daughter is just under 2 years old, so she just loved chasing us through the maze and playing hide and seek etc (obviously within eye-shot at all times or we'd never find her again!) The crop is perhaps 9ft tall, so you can't see over the top and there are four orienteering style punches to collect and questions to answer around the maze to learn about farming etc, which enters into a prize draw.

I can't remember how much it cost to get in but think it was under €5 per adult - I remember thinking it was good value. We were only there for a couple of hours but if the children were older then really you could let them run off and play for hours. It was very safe and fully fenced, with only one entrance and exit right by the refreshments where other parents were sitting awaiting their exhausted children to return!

seriously considering moving to Holland, except that there are not mountains there and the weather is complete crap. Then yet it does get fucking cold in Munich too and it was one fucked up cold rainy summer this year here.
