Hi there,

I am moving to Heidelberg soon, very soon actually. I recently got a job offer and it required me to move almost immediately.
I am looking for a place to live and honestly I am open to anything. If anyone knows of a good place to contact, an available one bedroom furnished apartment, or if you need a roommate, please contact me.

Best regards,

Jessica

Hi Jessica,

Welcome to Heidelberg (when you get here). Are you affiliated with the Department of Defence as a contractor or related to a military contract in any way? If so, you are authorized to use the housing office. Either way, there are many places and options for you. Let me know and I will do some leg work and get some info for you.

Ok, no problem. I will send you some links on Monday. Until then, just google away, hopefully you get an idea of housing here. Good luck.

Hi Jessica

Welcome to Heidelberg. here are some websites where you can find the details about the apartments available for rent. but they are in German language .

http://www.wg-gesucht.de/
http://www.zimmer69.de/de/zeige.php?modus=angebote
http://www.zwischenmiete.de/angebote_lesen...21a4589b17d293a

Hope you find a apartment soon

I too am moving to Heidelberg by Mid September. Can some one help me to find a place too? I checked some of the websites listed above. Most of them are in German and I dont have a clue how to read it! As a single male, I just need a room to live and a kitchen to cook. How much will a basic apartment cost in Heidelberg?

Thanks in advance

I've found Google's translation page
http://translate.google.com/translate_t#
to be very usefull in working through pages in German. After a days or weeks, you'll master what the basics are
Wohnungen... Apartment
Zimmer ... Room
Wohnflache ... liveable space
Einbaukuche ...Built in Kitchen (I suggest you look for this as buying and installing a kitchen is a PITA)

Also check out www.immobilienscout24.de for apartments for rent. I got lucky and found a great apartment on this site (it was the 1st apartment I looked at)
Good luck and once you get settled look for a Frisbee cathing dog in the Park along the Neckar and we'll have a beer...

Is there an area of Heidelberg that is best to live?

Depends on what you're looking for... (seriously)

What are you looking for in the way of living accomodations? What will you be doing? What are your priorities? I live near where I work on the south side of town. I can get to the party zones by public transport and get home by cab. If I lived near the party zones and could walk home I'm sure I'd be out even more than I am and paying a lot more in rent as well. You will have to determine what you want out of your experience here and what you are willing to give up (cost/convenience) for it. This assumes you even want to live in town and not in a quaint quiet German town just outside of HD.

use this looking for a flatmate site. it's all in german though. choose "Angebot lesen", pick city from drop down list and the rest should be intuitive.

Heidelberg is a beautiful city, just like Woods said, "www.immobilienscout24.de " is a good place.

I was lucky enough to talk to somebody from there who spoke decent english to where if I had any questions.

If you're lucky you can find a fully furnished one, however, most of them aren't and might have to install a kitchen

I am currently set to PCS into Heidelberg Jan 2010. I am currently a single mother and well I am having the hardest time finding a place for my daughter and I. I have talked with my sponsor and he had stated to wait until I arrive there. I would just like to research ahead of time so I can plan on what I would like to take with me and what I would or should put into permanent storage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. also if anyone has any helpful information that would be great.

It is really good to have a site like this for people to help people.
