I recently gained a British Diploma in Translation from the Chartered Institute of Linguists in London. It's around MA level in terms of degree of difficulty (so I'm told, anyway).
Does anyone know which German authority I can go to (in Darmstadt) to get it assessed for its equivalence to a German qualification? I need this for professional purposes.
Any information about cost would also be appreciated.
Thanks.

Nobody's answered this. I can't but can certainly suggest how you may find out as we get questions on TT about professions in German and equivalence of overseas qualifications (we've had ones here recently about accounting and vets). wikipedia.de is a good place to start. That will usually tell you how your profesion operates in general, what the normal qualifications etc are - laws and regulations, and any "chamber" or other member body that governs the profession (although bear in mind that, in Germany, stuff like qualifications are often governed by statue not institutes' programmes). It will also give links to the websites of these relevant professional organisations, and thus you can then contact them to make the relevant enquiries.
Your UK organisation may possibly be able to give you general information on equivalency of UK qualifications overseas but don't expect them to know specifics of other nations.

A good starting point is

In this specific case, I'm not sure whether Germany will be happy to recognise the qualification as sufficient for a state-certified translator, as my impression is that this is a bit of a closed shop. I'd be interested to hear of your experience, though, as my wife intends taking a similar course.
