Army recruits taking their public vows - Munich

popped into town at lunchtime, Marienplatz and the surrounding streets are crawling with police, including the police with big machine guns.
apparently today 500 newly recruited German soldiers will be taking their vows.
should all be over by 3pm, at the moment Marienplatz has been cordonned off since 10am. demonstrations are expected.

you know, back when i took that vow, there wasn't a single police officer present. because we did it in the base, where it's supposed to be - and doesn't cost the taxpayer about 1.5 million euro like this escapade today.
