I am German but feel like an expat

Hi there,

I'm Elli, 28 years of age and I am an original "Hamburgerin". I've been living in UK for three years and moved back to Hamburg some time ago. And this is where my little misery starts:
Most of my friends have relocated and the ones still left are not at the same wavelength anymore, if you know what I mean. It happened a few times that I met up with
an old colleague or friend and then realised that we've got nothing in common anymore... maybe I am not German enough anymore... who knows

Anyways, I miss going to the pub every now and then,... considered this though, but found it rather disturbing to sit in front of a beer on my own, talking to myself. I know, I know, you can always meet people but I do miss to speak English as well so I thought this is the perfect place to look for "what I desire"... Going to the movies would be fab as well, but I have become a bit picky as I cannot stand anymore to watch English movies in German..(has come that far, that I have ordered Sky out of desperation).

So what do I have to offer? I love to have a laugh and be silly sometimes, but I also like and want in-depth talks and discussions. I can help if somebody wants to improve their German...as long as I am allowed to speak English every now and then

What I am hoping for is to meet new people who maybe don t want to sit and talk to themselves in a pub or a group of people telling me to "join the gang"

Me as well in almost similar sorta situation, but background that leads towards the current situation is a bit different. .
Anyways, it would great to meet you up and meet out for some pubbing, movies. At the same time, German. I speak and write English as I have studied all my life only in English.
But German I had a small course for 4 months a few years ago and now speak the more colloquial ( My friends call it "Denglish") German rather being Grammatically correct. I would love to improve on that.

My name is Ben, and looking at this thread, I'm in the same situation as a lot of people.

I'm 24 from wales and I moved here with my partner about 12 months ago. I spent so much time hunting for, getting and keeping a job when we first arrived, that I have inadvertently become a bit of a recluse. I only realised it had happened about a month ago, and now it bugs the hell out of me!

It would be great to meet up with people to just do stuff. I'm game for most things, but I love music in particular. Ska/Rock/Reggae all have a special place in my heart, but I listen to anything and everything really. I love a good gig, and I play guitar and sing (a bit, lol) if that is of interest/use to anyone.

Also up for meeting anyone who would like to help with my German/improve there English. Despite being from Wales, people always say they find I speak English very clearly, even when I talk about challenging subjects, like Philosophy or Neuroscience (I'm not a scientist, but it fascinates me) and I love a good discussion. The flip-side is my German is awful (and I really do mean that) as I work at an English speaking company. So any help is always welcome.
