I've seen a couple references to this, but can't seem to find a thread or any information about it. Can somebody please elaborate?

Was wondering that myself...then I remembered seeing this thread:
Saint Emmeram wooden bridge reopens.
Think that might be what is being referred to...but not sure.

It's a kiosk as far as I understand and the TB is hoping to offer TexMex snacks there in summer - there is a new bridge over the
Isar to it. I'm looking forward to it - ask TB for more info.

Ohhh, this could be very nice. Right on my bike ride to/from work! At least I think it is. Not 100% sure where this bridge and kiosk is locate, but I do cycle between
Schwabing and Unterfoering which takes me right through St. Emmeran and/or Oberfoering.

@TheJarvii - I've cycled that route too, have you ever tried the beergarden at St Emmeran - any good?

Tom17 is pretty familiar with that route. He probably knows the what and where.

@ UrbanAngel - Never stopped at that beer garden, but cycle right in front of it before going up the hill. I've heard it is (or was) one of the places to go and "be seen". Perhaps that turned me off to it a bit. I should try it sometime though.
I do like the Kleine Hofbraugarten along the route. Great cycle route if you like beer gardens! Chinese Tower, Seehaus, Hirschau, Kleine Hofbraugarten & St. Emmeran (even the Aumeister if you want to go a slightly different route).
We've discussed doing a beer garden crawl home one evening, but I'm not sure I'd make it.

If you are in that area, you can't miss the kiosk when it is set up. I have heard that that beergarden is really good from the D&J.

Ok, aparantly you can miss it.

Can somebody point me to where this is on a map. I know the St. Emmeran beer garden, and I bike over the dam south of it as well. But, I've never seen a bridge that looks like
THIS.I was biking all over on my way home from unterfoering to
Schwabing this week and haven't seen any covered bridge.

@jarvii: If you cycle North along the West bank of the
Isar it's there, just at the end of the English garden... or at least it was there last night when I cycled in!

If you are looking for the Kiosk, I don't think it will be set up until Saturday, but only if the weather is good. What are you looking for, the beer garden?
Tom17
Apr 7 2005, 10:53 am
Yep, its been there for years.. then it was gone for a few years
Saint Emmeram wooden bridge reopens and its returned some time this year. If you go north along the isar from town, you go past the mittlerer ring bridge (John F Kennedy Brücke) then you get to the yellowy weir building that goes across the river and the next bridge is StEmmerans.
If you go along the
Isar its hard to miss..
However, I was unable to find any signs of Twisted's Sister aroudn there :-(

Apr 7 2005, 10:54 am
I believe everyone that it is there. I just haven't seen it.
So is this kiosk not open on weeknights?
@eurovol - Thanks, but as I said in my first post, I know where the beer garden is, just not the bridge.
eurovol
Apr 7 2005, 10:58 am
The bridge is directly behind the beer garden and has signs pointing to it.
The kiosk is mobile, not permanent and I think it only gets set up when the weather is good. It was supposed to be set up this weekend. Not sure about weekdays, but I would say that will come later when it really does get nicer out.

Apr 7 2005, 11:02 am
Right behind the St. Emmeran beer garden the bridge is not covered as shown in the pictures though. I know that bridge well as I cycle over it then in front of the beer garden and up the hill.
EDIT: The bridge behind the beer garden is right above the "M" is ST. EMMERAN on the map above.

Also, the bridge IS covered...

Ok, eurovol must speak of a different beer garden. The bridge behind the St. Emmeran beer garden is not covered.
Tom, is the covered bridge on that map I posted?
Tom17
Apr 7 2005, 11:07 am
Its not *shown* on the map, but it is around that area.. towards the north of the pic you posted, across the main
Isar river, not the Isarkanal...

just PM TexasTornado to ask her, if you're planning to go. I think weekends are a cert in good weather, but don't know about weekday evenings.

@Tom17 - Now I'm really confused. Just off that map to the north is the Foringer ring where the bus I take goes. Looking down the
Isar from it I have never seen a covered bridge. I'm convinced this is a magical bridge that disappears when I am around.
@JB - Ok, I will ask her. I only ask about weeknights b/c that is when I am in that area.

@jarvii: Way North of there. It's pretty much on the edge of the park.
Tom17
Apr 7 2005, 11:12 am
OK, if you go to the map site that shall not be named, and do a search for St Emmeram in München and look at the resulting map you can see where it SHOULD be. The map looks like it has not been updated yet since being re-opened...
ok.. on the map.. up by the very top, you see a path below the river called "Mittlere Isar Str" and there is a path going towards the
Isar from the 2nd 'e' of "mittlere" that stops, then carries on on the other side of the river... it should be there but its not shown.

Should be renamed to the 'Snuffleupagus Bridge'

This is getting interesting. I have no clue what the "map site that should not be named" is so it makes it hard to follow Tom's instructions.
Benpanter now places the bridge "Way North" of the map I posted, which would put it nowhere near St. Emmeram and Oberfoering as it has always been explained.
It would be quite interesting to compile all these explainations. I think not only is it a magical bridge, but it exists in 4 to 5 different locations.

Yay! Thanks Owain! That is what I needed. Placement on the map. These explainations were all confusing me (although I appreciated the help!)
I'm guessing I never saw the bridge because it didn't exist all last year when I was biking in the area, and I was looking in the wrong location this year.
Next step ... finding the kiosk and when it is open.

You have to go over that little footpath bridge (that is not a real bridge), cross the canal bridge and then bear right. Go past the kiddie playground and voila. If the kiosk is set up, it is in this area to be found. Good Luck.

Thanks eurovol, I always veer left after crossing the footpath bridge over the canal, so I guess I've always been close it.

not just english garden but all along the Isar, there are some fab ones...
I've already discussed this off-line, for main TT events (like tuesdays) people don't seem willing to try out new places off the beaten track (i.e. outside Schwabing).
But I intend to post trips to these smaller beer gardens on other days, as it's lovely biking along the
Isar in the evening to visit smaller gardens. I was at one this Monday, lovely.

Microsoft Mappoint would do it pretty easily, but probably costs the earth.

yeah. it is not just the map either. i could quite happily "borrow" the map part from somewhere. Not being the creative kind, i don't have any software apart from paint to be able to edit the maps and mark the beergardens apart from with ugly big red blobs like above.

It would be pretty easy to have a simple map (big graphic) and just wee dots representing stuff that you hover over and get a nice little pop-up with details and shit. Just be annoying to keep manually updated, rather than some nice software that just maps and plots a data feed of addresses and names.
