Aeroplane riding around Frankfurt

Treat for my boyfriend

italian
Hi everyone,

as our 10th anniversary is approaching i was looking to treat my boyfriend to an aeroplane riding in a two seat aeroplane (seat next to the pilot).

I know nothing about aeroplanes, but he loves them and has also been to several rides back in the UK (I can't even rememeber the type of aeroplane he went to)

Anyway to put it simply I would like to offer him something in a two seat aeroplane (with the pilot); something fast; or even better some military aeroplanes, I'm not sure if this is something possible at all..

Any suggestions? I've read there are many opportunities, even lufthansa offers a flight in something called Ju 52, is it any good? has anyone been in one of these or anything similar?

I've also read in another thread (around Hamburg) that usually this commercial opportunities are overpriced and we should look at Luftsportverband or something like that.

Please any help would be so appreciated,
thanks

Take a look at this thread, there might be some ideas in there for you.

The JU-52 ride is really neat, but in my opinion it's not the same as riding right seat in a small plane.

When the kids and I get bored, we sometimes go over to the Luftsportclub Bad Homburg and have a local pilot haul us around for a while.

We've flown out of Ober Moerlen a few times as well.

Thanks, I've already read that thread but they mostly speak of opportunities around Hamburg, while I am looking at the Frankfurt / Rhein-Main area..

that's a great suggestion, thanks Expaticus! As I said unfortunately I understand nothing about it all. Which one would you suggest me to offer to my boyfriend?

He's a 31 years old, with a passion for fast, military planes, i've heard him saying he likes fighters, etc.. Of course it doesn't need to be a fighter, but something interesting enough..

For example MOTORFLUG or Segelflugzeug??
Expaticus
Well, you're unlikely to find any fighter jet rides around here (perhaps TT user HEM knows better). They do exist in Germany (I seem to remember seeing one in the Lufthansa catalog, but the price was astronomical). The links I gave are both grass strips.

For well under what that would cost you, you could arrange an afternoon where he gets both ... a winch-tow glider ride and a ride in a light single-engine.
italian
Thanks I will do that, i've already emailed them to ask for information.

Any idea about the cost for 30 min ride? and do they accept payment / booking in advance (let's say online) or does it work that you usually go there and pay there directly?

There are private companies that offer variety's of thrill rides.

I saw one I believe in Sinsheim that offered over 300 from skydiving, fighter jet rides, helicopters, race cars, submarine, and on and on.

My husband wanted to do everything they offered lol. But the price was high, very high. They didn't even list prices for the jet rides so I imagine it is quiet expensive.

I saw the ad in the local Heilbronn activity magazine, I will try to see if I can track one down and get the web link. It was something with adventures in the titles.

thanks Serenajean1 !

I've just received a reply from AeC Bad Nauheim in Ober-Mörlen, they quote a Person/15min for EUR 35, both in "a Motorsegler oder der DR400".

That seems quite cheap I was expecting a lot more..
Expaticus
The DR400 is a fun little low-wing single-engine french plane with a big canopy with great visibility.

If you're pleasantly surprised at the price, buy him more time ... or go up with him (and a camera) and amortize the cost!
italian
I will definitely buy him more time.. but don't ask me to go with him, I'm too scared!
