This is bad - I'm happy a BK opened up at OBF. Sometimes I'm waiting there late at night, hungry, waiting for my SBahn. Where is it exactly? Orleansplatz?

@DK - I've eaten at Taco Bell once on an army base in Grafenwöhr - I liked it smile.gif

What Munich really needs is a Pret a Manger. Anyone want to open a franchise?
Dangeross
Shame that both KFC's are in the arse end of nowhere. sad.gif
Tbunny
did the woman who served you have long black hair? if so she always acts like that.
On the weekend I saw a chinese couple order all the coupons from the paper from her, and she acted the same way as what you described.

Apparently its been roughly a year ago since the first KFC opened in Munich. Remember the excitement, the anticipation, the 16 pages of discussion? Ah good times. Anyhoo, so this here is a happy birthday shout to your friend and mine, KFC. biggrin.gif

ps: they are apparently having birthday specials this week. I was going by too fast (yes it hurts to be a superhero) to get the details.
Eck Spatz
According to their website, there's another 'restaurant' opening here in Minga in early '07!

I know kentucky fried chicken has ALWAYS been my favorite claim to fame.

Making people fat since...whenever

used to do the run to Augsburg myself. The KFC i believe is close to the
Olympia Platz. The one in Augsburg had a Pizza Hut added on to it.Not been now for a good 5 years
BadDoggie
KFC near OEZ is actually at the Georg-Brauchle-Ring U-Bahn entrance by the Bus 143 stand, corner of Hanauer- and Gneisenaustraße. Maybe we need a TT KFC lunch...

woof.

I was disappointed last time I went to KFCs. The first time was great but the last time, the chicken coating tasted so bland... I thought the coating was standard and so shouldn't really change...? Put me off going again...
Hutcho
I've only been to the Hanauerstr one, but I must say, every time I've gone there it has been the best KFC I've ever eaten.. man, I could go for some right now..
Darkknight
Update: The KFC in Augsburg is gone.. Its now a Pizzahut
Malt-Teaser
Last week I called in to see my tax consultant on Hanauerstr. and noticed the KFC which had sprung up right next door since my last visit last year. I was rather early so I decided to call in for lunch and I have to agree with Hutcho that it was excellent!
I enjoyed a portion of the crispy chicken breast pieces, some hot wings and fries and found them all to be far less greasy than any KFC I ever ate in the UK.

I shall make a point of being early for my next tax consultation too.
Mariposa
I like KFC, sometimes there before/after a movie, as it is only two (or three, or whatever) stops from Stiglmaierplatz.
I wish they'd open one closer to downtown.
And I wish they'd get the biscuits. Why does KFC in Germany not have biscuits??

Does anyone outside of North America eat these 'biscuits'?
tartan
KFC is filthy shit. Old nasty chicken deep fried in crap. Eating there is tant amount to saying you are a culinary moron with no sense of flavour (other than vast amounts of salt and fat) or understanding of food.

Mariposa it appears, so in TT tradition, it must mean that all Germans like biscuits.
Mariposa
Exactly. I like them, so all Germans do, too! Now if only KFC knew that.

Does KFC in the UK sell biscuits?
fletch
@ Mariposa
I do not think that any of the EU Based KFC does Biscuits.

But I would like to point out to my friend Tartan, that everyone would agree that fast food is not culinary greatness. It does however remind some of us of our home and that is a good thing. The funny thing is that I can count the number of times I had gone to KFC in the five years before coming here very quickly - 0.

After being here I have been there a handful of times just because it is a little piece of home.

Also Biscuits are a southern thing that always comes with Fried Chicken, KFC or Homemade.
Mariposa
Yeah I just like biscuits, regardless of whether they come from KFC or the grocery store (or are freshly made).

Do you happen to have a good and easy recipe to make biscuits from scratch?

Freiheit
Biscuits from scratch are not too difficult to make, if you can get the proper ingredients (shortening or lard is key).

Here, however, is the best place buy a biscuit in the entire world (ok, I haven't tried every bicuit ever made, but these are out of this world):

Biscuitville

Unfortunately, they only operate in a small region in North Carolina and Virginia.
movingon
" Fast food chain KFC has asked Pope Benedict to bless a Lenten addition to the sandwich's line." KFC said the fish sandwich should prove popular on Friday's, when Catholics traditonaly don't eat meat in the 40 days leading up to Easter Sunday." this from BBC 2/24/07

With the pope behind KFC and Prince Charles denouncing McD's what ever will be next?

I think you'll find they are actually owned by Yum! Brands, but yeah Pizza Hut, Taco Bells and KFC are all owned by the same company and are often found together in the same building.

Thanks. I'll see if I can find that here.
I am sad when I see Pillsbury food here but all they have is croissants and something else (forgot), but no biscuits.

Why does KFC in Germany not have biscuits??

Possibly cos KFC Germany is actually British KFC in Disguise. (See Below for extract of the impressium of the KFC germany website)
And you cant sell random dough balls in Britain and call them biscuits cos in britain this is what biscuits look like!
So as you can see, the name biscuit in Britain (and Ireland i might add) is already associated with lovely dunkable sweet bakery products that go fabulously with a cup of tea or coffee.
And if the british are simply transplating KFC from there to here, its not too surprising that they dont sell these doughball thingies.
Anyhow. I think the british call random circular doughballs "Yorkshire Pudding" so the market for random doughballs over there is already cornered sad.gif

Who is KFC Germany???
From kfc.de contact details
Kentucky Fried Chicken
(Great Britain) Ltd., German Branch
Wanheimer Straße 49
40472 Düsseldorf
Mariposa
Well, I don't care what they call them. They can rename them to something else and sell them here.

The last time I had some biscuits was sometime last summer. sad.gif
exquitius
wikipedia reckons that they have been renamed scones and lo and behold are available at the Sconery down at the fünf hof.
Happy munching!
Mariposa
I've had a scone before and they are not nearly as fluffy. also not salty. the one I had before. shall check out the sconery next time i'm in munich.
perdido
Good lord. i will say actual home made southern bisquits are great but the KFC ones are lacking. My mother makes great southern ones but refuses to send me the recipe unless i visit texas.

I always get the raisin ones and I do like the raspberry ones (but they don´t have them that often).

Which one was that? There was one on the Maximillian Strasse, one near the old Sheridan Kaserne and one near Oberhausen Bahnhof. There was another one on the B-17 near Haunstetten I think.
Darkknight
The one that was close to Rathausplatz. The location's still there, only now it's a Pizzaslut.
perdido
Well they are owned by the same company so it doesnt matter. Maybe it will close down and a taco bell will open up next.
MissingMunich
Ironic really. I'm sitting in the states missing the great Bavarian food . . . . can hardly wait until I get back this summer. It never occured to me that there would be people in Munich enjoying KFC. tongue.gif
Darkknight
Sometimes you need a break from German Food...

Taco Bell, will not be opening a store in Germany. They are banned from doing so due to the exclusive contracts
they have with the US Military and the former owners of a German trademark/copyright on the name "Taco bell"..
See Hooters comes to Germany post.

PS: They are also in Beligum, again limited to US/NATO Military bases
MissingMunich
I guess that's true ... "grass is always greener". biggrin.gif

The new 'Munich North' KFC will be in the Euro Industrie Park on Maria Probst Str, across the road from Real (the one that used to be Walmart, not the other one). Not sure exactly when it's opening yet. The signs just say 'Fruhjahr 2008'.
Mariposa
Oooh Ottobrunn? Awesome! Does it say when?
Pas
I'm not sure if this is good news or bad. It's an addiction I was trying to kick.

As I'm not sat in Edinburgh I have a choice of KFC or Harry Ramsdens for lunch. I really should avoid junk food.
exquitius
According to the KFC website, the new KFC at the Euro Industrie Park will be the largest KFC in the world!!!

Theres a live webcam of the building site here, with what looks like a massive circular slide to attract the children. Impressive!
