No, I can't...that would be 3 days in a row at KFC. I must wait until the weekend at least wink.gif
BadDoggie
Suffer, suckers! I had spicy Popeye's, with the Best Biscuits Evar, incredible cole slaw and red beans & rice. MMmmmmmm...

woof.
Jules Winnfield
Man my mouth is watering - Popeye's just mercilessly kicks ass...
Marty
Next KFC will open in Verdistraße this year.

I used to work there when I was 16. Trust me you don't want to eat this stuff. Besides three legged chickens... there is also the underwritten corporate policy called "the 3-second rule". If the food is on the floor for 3 seconds or less it is still sellable. You used to find rats by the bin out back dead on their sides with some chicken scraps next to them... now if a rat can't eat that stuff... I would think twice. The general's twelve herb's and spices consists of MSG-1 through MSG-10, yellow-5, and salt... not to mention the genetically altered higher sugar-carb and fat levels. Don't be fooled... a serving size is 1 wing. Go get some recipes for the same stuff at about.com. Your heart and waste will thank you.

Welcome to fatland, germans!

And how is that different than any other fast food place? I worked at Round Table Pizza when I was a kid, and I've got plenty of horror stories for you.

I still eat at Round Table Pizza. ph34r.gif
Luvbeers
Wasn't trying to point out any difference... I wouldn't eat at any of those fast food places!

Ooooh share some RTP horror stories please! biggrin.gif

Mouse. Tongs. Beer pitcher. Drowned.

I hope I wasn't there that day! Not in California was it?
interplanetjanet
Yep. Well, you couldn't have been there anyway, if you don't eat at any of those fast food places. wink.gif

Hey being an American I was raised on that crap. I still remember it being a big deal to go out for a fine family dinner at McDonald's. Once you get passed the free darth vadar action figure with your purchase child marketing... you should realize how bad it is.
interplanetjanet
I think most people do realize just how bad it is and don't actually eat at the places regularly. Those who live off the stuff are in the minority. I rarely eat fast food, but I'll admit I love it on occasion, no matter how bad it is for me.
Tom17
We knew exactly how bad it is for us when we went to KFC for lunch today and had a bucket of 8 between us..

Lots of enjoyable things in life are bad for us, but we have the choice.. and today I chose KFC biggrin.gif
Blimeygirl
I would like it stated for the record that I only had 3 pieces...and watched Tom make the ultimate sacrifice (it was dicey at the end...I wasn't sure he was going to make it).

It ranks right up there for hangover food...a solid 9 out of 10.

The biscuit. Where is the darn biscuit? Where is it I ask.

Went there for lunch cuz I wanted to get this thing over with. Had 6 piece bucket and a 2 piece menu thingy between the two of us with cole slaw and fries.

cole slaw -- nowhere near the American cole slaw. Kinda like diet-version of US coleslaw.
fries -- substandard and too dry
chicken -- not as good as I expected but not that much better than in the US either. I think I have to try one more time to figure out which is better.

I missed out on mashed potato and gravy while ordering cuz I didn't see it. After a bit of bitching about how there is no mashed potato and biscuit I saw the mp in the little menu booklet they gave.

Over-all I think it is just average.

I also found out that the franchise is owned by an Indian. Kentucky Curry Chicken anyone? wink.gif

we also grabbed a bucket for lunch yesterday. well, slim grabbed a bucket (which i'm sure he'll review) & i had a "zinger" sandwich. it was okay, but what i had been craving was the mashed potatoes. they are definitely different than the u.s. version- potatoes taste a bit more like flour & gravy doesn't have as much spice. oh, & they dump the gravy on top of the potatoes in one container (it's amazing how the smallest details can put me off.) bottom line: not as good as the original, but will do in an emergency.

Found a blond hair in the mash potatoes...when it was in my mouth..was so digusting - i lost my appetite. Especially since I have dark hair and so does my companion. sad.gif

Practically burned out my tongue with the alcohol wipes you use to wash your hands after. Chicken was good tho.

Yeah, I had to go try it out. Had to substitute mashed potatos and gravy for the standard fries. Go figure. And I too wished for the good ole biscuit.

Overall, not bad considering how far from the states we are.
roots
wazzup with potato fries anyway? You don't have fries at KFC in the US. You have potato wedges.
UrbanAngel
I bought a 'Kartoffelbox' (potato wedges) from Nordsee with Remouladesauce at the airport yesterday and must say that they were perfect. Not too greasy, soggy or hard.

@roots
we're lucky- in canada they only have fries!

@toronto
i don't think that the wipes are for eating. wink.gif

True but we also have a nice macaroni salad...can't get that here. And a much different coleslaw...that green mushy one...I don't like it but I know loads that do.

I do like the mash here but will now be on guard for blonde hairs ph34r.gif I also agree with the assessment that the gravy should be on the side and not dumped on top.
Owain Glyndwr
ahhh i had the mashed potatoe and gravy the other day! mmmmmmmmmm
Iceberg Slim
I tried the 6 piece bucket of original recipe and coleslaw. There were no biscuits and I shall not comment further on that miscarriage of culinary transplantation.

However, the bucket was - as advertised - delivered in old-school paper-bucket form. I thought that was just fantastic. In N.America they've switched over to the origami-box-puzzle thingies for anything smaller than a 10-piece.

I found it incredibly strange to see the workers dumping fries from a paper container onto a porcelain plate for orders to be eaten in. But at least they have plastic sporks.

The chicken was good. It was even better cold for lunch today. The coleslaw had that sort of burn to it that is unique to KFC, though it was not as creamy as in the US. Though it is far better here than in Canada where they took over the recipe from Scott's Chicken Villa - that sorry excuse for a chicken company.

The mashed potatoes tasted the same to me. Toast says no, and she's the expert. The gravy lacked that radioactive appearance that is so distinctive in the US.

So, the summary is:

- 4 (out of a possible 5) clogged arteries for the chicken
- 3 clogged arteries for the coleslaw
- Fries were unrated (though I intend to go back for the chili-cheese fries)
- 3 clogged arteries for the potatoes (minus 1 clog for pre-mixing the gravy with the taters)

All in all, it was an excellent dining experience. I recommend visiting if only to listen to the people in line trying to figure out what the hell some of the menu items are.
Toast
i forgot to include my favorite part. the sporks have a small colonel sander's head on the end.

Marshbot
Jesus! If I was a little kid and found that mutant on the end of my spork I think there would be nightmares for a week.
Do you think they've made him look so scary on purpose?

evil.

mine looked like this

I was at KFC last week and noticed they don't serve popcorn chicken. Is this solely an American specialty?
Wee Mun
nah, they have that in the UK as well
Iceberg Slim
And popcorn chicken is just about the most popular food in China. They have what I guess to be a 10 Kilo sackful of it on the menu there.
Darkknight
And for those getting buckets of hotwings, you might want to start counting them when you get home.. Just got back with my Party bucket of "63" and only got 53 in the bucket... Anybody got contacts to complain to, as it seems the staff there can't count correctly..
Blimeygirl
Yeah you really do need to check that...we ordered the 8 piece and only got 6 the first time around. The girl didn't really believe it...but we were able to tell her exactly what we ordered and what we paid and she looked back on the system and then reluctantly gave us the two pieces.
Tom17
Mmmmm bucket of 8 at home watching telly...

Fantastic.

*licks fingers*

Have just come back from Hanauer St. KFC and have never seen such miserable people in any takeaway/restaurant before.
I stood in a queue for a little while..there were two people behind the counter a man and a girl.
I got to the girl and asked for 2 Fillet burgers..she did not acknowledge me but tapped on the till then proceeded to pull 2 cups out. I smiled and my daughter said to her in German that we just wanted the sandwiches. She then raised her eyes to heaven and glared at me and slammed the cups down.
We then ate the burgers and went to order a bucket to take home..whilst she was doing that a woman came up and politely told her that she paid for an item that had been missed off her order. Again she glared and muttered as though it was the customer's fault.
At the same time another girl came out behind the counter and was handed a till drawer by I assume a manager...she glared at him, lifted her blouse above the stomach and started rubbing her stomach as though in pain.

With high unemployment employers can be choosy and more important if you don't like working with general public why do such a job?
UrbanAngel
Desperation?
Maybe she's pregnant.
Darkknight
If she's that far along, then she shouldn't be working. But this has nothing to do with her lack of "Customer Service"..
UrbanAngel
Not everyone can be so picky about jobs Darkknight. Not everyone's so privileged.
DDBug
Nah - there's a flu bug going around, she probably has it.

Edit - not intending bird flu joke about KFC employee. ... but, well, ... huh.gif
Barnet Boy
Well she didn't look pregnant and also does not explain the other one. I tell you if I hadn't driven 20 something k's to get there I would have walked out. Jobs aren't two a penny with the unemployment and we all have bad days but if you are dealing face to face with Joe Public you don't have to be or should be sunservient..just show a little politeness to the people. Oh well..'nuff said..just needed to vent my anger and done and I always have the choice of not going there again. There is another somewhere and a 3rd opening.
Medusa
kfc is already in munich!
a few mins walk from olympic shopping centre
was there last thursday
finger lickin good!
DDBug
Uh - Medusa - that is where Barnet Boy was!
UrbanAngel
3rd opening, where's the 2nd one? I only know of the OEZ one where you were.
DDBug
Well, if he drove from Furth, maybe he was thinking of the one in Nuremberg or the one in Augsberg? Or he got is confused with the American Fried Chicken that has been over by West Park for over 10 years.
Barnet Boy
Here ya go

Wow - that's news to me - anyone been there? (but, that's in Pasing, does that really count as in Munich ?tongue.gif )
DriveShaft
Well, it *is* Germany and are well known for lack of service!
Darkknight
Dam.. KFC's, Starbucks and Subways popping up everywhere...

Saw a new Subway on Schwanthaller Str. and 2 new SB's (1 behind the rathaus, the other near M-Freiheit.)
I'm still waiting for a Taco Bell...

@Barnet Boy
Why would you drive from Furth to Munich to go to KFC? Unless your profile info isn't up to date...
bluedave
and also the new Burger King opened at Ostbahnhof yesterday, fast food heaven in Munich
Barnet Boy
Whoops..wrong Furth. Ameneded now Dark Knight thanks
deep_schismic
hehe not just germany...seems to be an european flavour. Coming from australia where customer service is a BIG DEAL and retailers would be out of business if they had crappy customer service..I find such a thing virtually non-existent here and frankly, an unpleasant shock when u don't speak german. And I know, i worked in retail for over a year before I came here.
