Hi all,

Now that spring has arrived, I have dusted off the road bike and plan to work off the winter softness. I'm looking for training partners for motivation, company and some friendly competition when fitness returns. I used to race back in the day (Cat 2 on the US scale) but have not competed in about 4 years. For the next couple of months I am mainly interested in base miles in the early morning (50-70 km during the week, 80-120+ on the weekend) at an average speed somewhere around 30km/hr. I'm located in Grosshadern (zzzzzz...) so south and west of Munich are my usual training grounds, but I'm open to learning new roads.

If you're interested in joining me in my quest to render my body into a bag of coathangers, please send me a PM.
kathie
I'd love to find someone to cycle with (now I think the phantom puncture is cured), but I'm up for far more leisurely cycling, enjoying nature etc etc. Obviously enough to burn a few calories, but not serious training...
chickmunks
I´d like to join you but i am living in bogenhausen.

I am also looking for a cycling buddy but someone who is based around bogenhausen.

I usually go cycling twice a week

Kathie,

I sound more like you. I want to get out there and bike and explore, but certainly not race. Do you have a road bike (10+ speed), or a mamma-cherry (3 speed like Maria rode in the sound of music?), or a mountain bike (it rides slower on the road, so good to know).

Hi!
My bike at the moment is a bog standard ladies bike with 21 gears... Am maybe looking into getting a new one, which may then end up being more mountain bike style...
32D
I think I have a simple bike with 6(!) gears? May be if we can go on some leisure outing on a bike, I might join, may be in the weekends... I am not sure how long I can drive at stretch. But anyway I can explore my fitness and the world. Definitely a group motivates!
geezer
I am also interested in cycling.

Have you guys met up already.

Any recommendations for trails near the english garden?
Tom17
I.. err... have just become interested in road cycling too... Since fitting 1" slicks on my mountain bike last week, it has turned into more of a hybrid trekking/road bike and is quite nice on roads now.

Did 2hrs on Sunday with average speed of 24kph with some dordeling (a word?) so I may be up for some of these 30kph road bike rides too... If I have to push, then good.. all the more legs for tegernsee smile.gif
tench
Been out on the roadbike on my own a few times this year. Some company and someone to draft would be great! smile.gif
I'm in neuhausen. How far out of munich are you? I'm up for anything upto 120k

I'm guessing.. if anyone here wants to do a ride much over 50k, then it doesnt really matter where in Munich we are... anyways, I am in Olympiapark - yep, dawdling by that tree!
scotsman
@tench, I live in neuhausen as well. I'm in scotland at the moment but will be back in munich from friday this week. I should Have my bike by the start of next week.
So give me a shout if you are wantin to go for a run etc,

Hi

Anyone interested in a "warm up ride?" 09:30 on Sunday (unless it is pouring with rain). We will be riding down to Starnberg (Rotkrzplz->Hirschgarten->FürstenriedW->Gauting->StarnbergNord drink cup of coffee and then back along the road next to the autobahn). Nice easy pace, will be cool to have a group.

Anyone interested, post here or message me and we will wait for you on Sunday morning (I know its a bit early, would rather try and avoid the six million people driving to the "see" around 11am cool.gif ...

Cheers
Warren

Sunday at 9:30 I'll be at Rotkreuzplatz. It would make more sense to meet you at FürstenreidW, but I need the kms. As long as we're back by the time Paris-Roubaix is on tv!
lurch
Mmmm. I'll be up for a bit of that! smile.gif
Tom17
I think I am up for this.. Just one thing though, what is a "Nice easy pace" for you road bike guys? Having only been riding mountain bikes for the last 5 years I am only just getting used to the "high speeds" of my new tyres. I just dont want to come along if I cant keep up smile.gif What sort of average and max speeds will you likely be doing?
scotsman
Guys, I'll come along as well...if I have my bike. I"ll let you know on Saturday night.
UrbanAngel
Bugs - that sounds good, but for a novice rider, how tough would it be? I don't ride my bike regularly, and can't ride uphill at all. How many miles is that, and how many minutes/hours roughly? I was chuffed when I rode from Johanneskirchen to Ismaning and back, but I've since realised that's a piece of piddle for most bike riders..

EDIT- just realised it's this weekend ; I'm in London. Otherwise the question still stands.
Micki
Count me in as long as it's not raining. I've been looking for people to ride with too. Will try to keep up!

Sounds like there's enough of us to split into two groups if need be.

It's also pretty flat to starnberg - from what I remember its 20k each way. (So not too tough - especially if there's a coffee stop half way smile.gif)

If anyone fancies a longer ride and the weather is fine (and I'm not too hungover) I might up for a loop of starnberg lake too.
bugs
Tench is right - its about 20km each way and mostly flat (slightly hilly as you get into Starnberg). As a group an "easy pace" would be somewhere between 25 and 30km/h average... but we wont leave anyone behind biggrin.gif
chickmunks
I´m in unless its raining
Tom17
I'm in, rain or no... and might be up for a lap of the lake too :-)

Hi Everyone

Looks like the weather is going to be quite nasty this weekend. They are predicting "schnee regen huh.gif " tomorrow (Sat) in Munich with the weather improving again on Monday. Lets move riding to next Sunday and hope the weather is better...

Cheers
Warren
Tom17
So this is called off for tomorrow yeah?
MPIchaos
I'm not there, because I was fooled by the weather. By the time I realized that it's a perfect riding morning it was already after 9--too late to meet up with anyone at the meeting point. This is better for my productivity as work really piled up the last couple of days, but I would have preferred a group ride to designing a presentation tongue.gif

Next week?
bugs
Definitely next week!
tench
Went out in the afternoon and freezed my tits off. Might have been a nice ride if I had of worn gloves and tights.. Up for next week though

Here's something that looks interesting:

UrbanAngel
Sorry, gonna bottle out of this one and do the Saturday one on the Isar, as I don't cycle that much. Have fun!
scotsman

Paul

Hi - start of season and have some stuff on in the afternoon, so probably only about 2 hours at a nice relaxed pace (50-60km odd). Just to ease into the swing of things cool.gif

I'll im
lurch
me too!
Micki
count me in.
scotsman
ok so who got lost on the way into Munich?...Oh yeah, that was me!! Doh!! I followed the road beside the autobahn and when I got into Munich I didnt have a clue where I was. Seen the signs for the Zentrum for a couple of roads and then they stopped, nice. Ended up at the octoberfest site(dunno if that the approach you guys took??). Nice seeing the suburbs of Munich though! biggrin.gif

Ended up I was home for 1.15, when did all you guys get back??

Gotta do rides like that more often, really enjoyed being out in a group like that, even though I wasn't in the group untill we were havin coffee!! biggrin.gif

Paul
lurch
Ahh! we was wondering where you got to ... We went straight on...

I got back around twoish ... stopped for a another coffee though and a wee ice-cream laugh.gif
UrbanAngel
how was it then? A bit more hardcore than yesterday's ride? biggrin.gif
Micki
Great ride. Thanks for dragging me for most of it - it was the only way I could keep up!

We missed you Scotsman, but glad you found your way home. I got home around 1:30 - tired and famished.
bugs
Hey everyone - was a great ride! Looking forward to lots of rides this summer! cool.gif

Scotsman - glad you got home okay - looked for you at the Doves concert, was wondering where you got to! smile.gif
Blimeygirl
That was a great ride but tough work on my mountain bike, even with the 1 inch slicks on it...

FatBoyFat, what happened to you? I'm guessing the knobbly's were just too much? Hope you have slicks for next time smile.gif
MPIchaos
Good ride! I split off in Fürstenreid W and headed for home and got there a little after 1.

@Scotsman: Ignore the signs! We kept straight until a bike path was available, and took that. It will take you straight to Westpark, which is much nicer than the Weisen.

See everyone next Sunday, hopefully.
Tom17
Err... that post from Blimeygirl was me.. I HAVE to stop doing that...
UrbanAngel
was gonna say.. her ankle got better quickly!
FatBoyFat
Ermmm,
I had to stop to pick up my legs. Dam roadies, dam belly, dam legs, dam! wub.gif

Excuse: I had to get back for 12, to pick up some moving boxes from a friend. I had to drive back along the same road... Can't wait for the wife to pass her test.

Anyway, back to ebay. Gotta find myself some road bike bits. I wonder what size frame I should go for?

Paul. Ouch. biggrin.gif
