was a bit unlucky that Barca ended up against Chelsea although didn't Chelsea 'throw away' their last group game and end up second. As did Man U I believe. I liked it when they had two group stages but maybe that involved too many games

Mar 23 2005, 10:07 am
@ BT_rat - Ahh... yes I forgot that, Man U did throw their last game of the league part to get an easier draw then end up against Milan, so its their own fault ! Teams do this all the time, but you cannot complain about the outcome, regardless who you play, you have to beat them to progress !

Well 4-2 from the first leg, personal feeling that Bayern won't pull it back as Chelski will score on the Olympic stadium, but I guess it's all still open.

what is happening at the back for Bayern, they arent winning any coming in high. it is so frustrating, chelsea cant progress!

Apr 7 2005, 7:37 am
Yes they can, they deserved the win and frankly Bayern are lucky to have 2 away goals. I mean, did you see Ballack's theatrical dive at the end. He should have got sent off for that acting rather than getting a penalty.
I hope Cheasla beat them good in Munich as well.

Nope, he deliberately fabricated a story that wasnt true
Apparently there may be some truth in it after all, according to Frisk's 'secret UEFA report'
Lampard is pretty good

Apr 7 2005, 10:26 am
That Lampard goal was pretty good, wasn't it?
I think ManU should sign him

Diabolical referee though. And no way was that a penalty.
boomtown_rat
Apr 7 2005, 10:29 am
it shouldn't have been a peno - maybe the ref was feeling sorry for them. Quite cooly taken I guess. And what was that business with notes being passed backwards and forwards!!? Was surprised Chelsea didn't do more in the first hour though

Chelsea played really good. This is the first time I am able to see the complete chelsea game this season. Lampard is simply great.
Bayern tried hard in the second half, but could not really break Chelsea's defense. But I still believe Bayern will come good in Munich.
Being in Munich I just hope bayern could make it to next stage

Next week. Chelsea deserved the win. 2 away goals for Bayern is good for them going in to next week, puts pressure on Chelsea to score early on.

@ vamsi - true, if FCB beat Chelsea then we'll get Liverpool or Juventus in München for the semis

a worrying development last night was that I showed signs of excitement when Bayern nearly scored. Off to the 'you've been in Bavaria too long' thread I think

That is very worrying. Why on earth would you wanht Bayern to win?

Was I the only one who thought that last night's Ref should lay off the pies before such a game?
Topsy

No, Crawlie, you weren't alone.
I mean, I'm more than a bit partial to a nice pie myself, but I don't presume to run round trying to keep up with professional athletes.

Yeah, I was sitting there thinking that I could ref a Champions League game if being in shape isn't so important and giving crappy penalty shots is allowed.

I don't know really. I think I blame Hargreaves really, as I quite like him. And I've seen them a few times now and get to know who most of the players are. I wasn't too fussed either way really - at least Chelsea have a number of British players unlikely Arsenal had when they played. Of the big English teams I'm more of a Man U fan.

When Bayern play Arsenal, for instance, would be a situation where it would be perfectly normal in my eyes to want Bayern to win.

Just coming back to the point that was made earlier, Frisk is now reporting to UEFA and it appears that the reports from Chelsea regarding Barca trying to influence the ref may have been right.
Surely this should be STAMPED OUT, and dealt with quickly.

Apr 8 2005, 9:14 am
Nope. They just confirmed that Rijkaard spoke to him on the way to the dressing room and that he did NOT go in there with him. They reiterated that the charges were against the accusations that Rijkaard tried to influence the refereeing of the game.
SleeplessInMunich

if its true then they owe Mourinho an apology and he should have his ban overtuned before the second leg against Bayern next Tuesday.
Crawlies post would seem to indicate otherwise...

but he did go into an area that is out of bounds for managers etc (behind some perspex and next to the ref's room, and Frisk claims he had to tell him to back off. All a bit strange this is coming out now.

And not strange that Mourihno 'signed' a statement saying 'he saw' Rijkaard enter the refs dressing room, when in fact he never did.

Just for whose information?
Lo u lot over there.
Im coming over next Tuesday for the game.
Ive heard Günther Murphy's Irish Pub is a decent pub for the footy fraternity, that right ?
I'm also looking for accommodation (1 night only) close to the airport, any recommendations ?
Also whats the best way to travel between the airport, city and olympic stadium ?
Thanks in advance.
P.s. Whats the weather like ? Its brrrrrr here.

the only hotels I know near the airport are pretty expensive, but I'm sure there are others. I would look for ones located in the towns Freising or maybe Halbergmoos.
You can take the S1 or the S8 from the airport to get into the city. You can take the S8 to
Marienplatz and switch to the U3 to get to the Olympia park.
here's a good site to help find your way around on public transit
Cheers for that link, i'll read it now.
I think i would rather stay overnight in the Schwabing area.
I have all day Wednesday to have a look around the city, &
Schwabing sounds a decent lively place.
Dont suppose you know the number buses i need to go ...
Airport - Schwabing
Schwabing - Olympic Stadium
I love historical cities and i'm really looking forward to visiting Munich for the first time.
If you could recommend a couple of "cant miss" historical sites, especially ww2 related.
Cheers, hope today brings you the sun.

Hi 1967, I'm going too. Managed to get a ticket via EBay. Do you know which blocks the Chelsea fans will be in?

Apr 11 2005, 9:27 am
you should probably check out
Marienplatz (although the
Rathaus is partly covered up at the moment) and Odeonsplatz.
City centre to Schwabing is on U3 or U6 (underground), or it is walkable depending on what part of
Schwabing you stay in.
Weather will be a bit nippy unfortunately (was much better a couple of weeks ago) - although not as cold as when Arsenal were here

Apr 11 2005, 10:35 am
I guess Köningsplatz (the old nazi marching grounds - paving has now been replaced by grass) and Hofbraühaus could be of interest too.
The olympic stadium itself is a good sight to see itself - shame there is a running track in the way of the footy. Be aware too that only part of the seating is undercover (north curve is not) so if its raining you might want to take a hood with you.
If the weather is clear (unlikely probably) you could go to the top of the olympic tower. You can also go up the tower in
Marienplatz too.
Frauenkirche (the big church with two onions on the top) could be worth a look too - depending on what you are into.
Basically the whole old town centre is worth looking around - its very compact

Cheers '67 - I'd really appreciate that. I hate going to away grounds and having to sit quietly amongst the locals. If I knew I was going to be surrounded by Londoners, it would help me look forward to the game even more! Sitting amongst the enemy, however, is often the only way I can get to see Chelsea these days.
Stuttgart was a doddle last year, cos I was surrounded by OAPs with blankets on their knees, who thought I was from a different planet (well, Überlingen is a different planet in Stuttgart, I guess...). But I don't know how the Münchener will react when I stand up for 85 minutes singing "Carefree". Could be a bit dodgy...
Any predictions for the game? (I've got a couple of Euros on 1-4...)
