Garmisch-Partenkirchen US security advisory

After a brawl involving a serviceman

The Local
After a recent altercation between Americans and locals in mountain resort, the US consulate in Munich said Americans could be targeted over the 4th of July weekend. On Sunday, the consulate said the alert would be lifted soon.

Garmisch is a popular recreation spot for US military personnel stationed in Germany. After a brawl at a Garmisch nightclub two weeks ago where several people were injured, an American serviceman who took part was threatened with revenge attacks. Further threats came later in the week and warned that Americans would be the target of new attacks.

So the US Armed Forces Recreational Services gives up both Chiemsee and Berchtesgaden facilities, puts their whole bang and buck into Garmisch and one ugly American act puts all American guests in Germany at risk. The American management concept of putting everything in one tent to save money has severe drawbacks. This being one. Perhaps they should consider just letting go that recreational facility and lean more towards packaged vacations and tours run by local tour agencies with discounts for service members and their families. Might make them realize they're guests and the societal norms of Germany are quite different than what they're accustomed too so they should adapt.

The U.S. Consulate in Munich advises American citizens to avoid public gathering places, particularly restaurants, bars and discos frequented by American citizens, in the area of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria during the July 4th weekend. This advisory is based on reports that a German group may seek retaliation against U.S. citizens in Garmisch-Partenkirchen for a recent incident at a local nightclub involving U.S. service members and German nationals. During this period, U.S. citizens are advised to maintain a high level of vigilance and to take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness ...

I think this warning already went out with the number of 4th of July celebration threads. But better safe than sorry.

Pub fight with a German of Turkish extraction, ending up with a couple of macho threats. Not exactly Al Qaeda.

one ugly American act puts all American guests in Germany at risk
So why does it have to be one ugly American? Major Depp, Ive been in Germany 27 years, a fight is a fight, no matter who starts it. Of course the blame always comes from those little people that live in those little cardboard boxes, and have to blame any outsider. I love the friendship between the Americans and Germans..

I dont consider "German Turks" as the one that started this fight in anyway German. We are increasingly having problems with immigrants displaying an attitude of violence, yet the police and politicians shut up about it and dont even let them appear separately in the crime statistics. The Problem is getting worse by the day , now were even informed by a foreign embassy about while our own media and governments as usual keeps things quit. If it were some drunk neonazi skinhead the media would be all over it. I'm not saying that Germans dont get violent, im just saying that there is a problem that is being not talked about.

I cant believe how the so called"Free Press"fails to mention, that this brawl was perpetrated my Turkish immigrants. At least they didn't want to put that fact as a headline.I smell some serious"PC-Attempt" to put that IMO important note under the carpet. Now we all know how emotionally unstabel some"young"Turks can be also being easy on the knife of worse.Starting a fight with a Turk is like signing a Death Warranty or at least ending up in hospital.I think the whole"Information Policy"has been a shambles and some apologies are at order I would think. The News surrounding the incidence imply, that Germans and Amerikans cant behave when drunk and the whole thing has been put out of proportion questioning the usually healthy German-American friendship.Fact remains, that Germans and Amerikans get along just fine until some hysteric leftie comes along and jeopardizes our great friendship for some Turks behaving badly as usual.

I'm not surprised to read the press left out alot of pertinent information. It seems to be the way these days.
