Passau - What to see and do - Germany

Day trip in the city

crispybee
I've got a day and a half to wander round Passau.
What should I see, where should I go.
And to avoid?

get there for midday and there is a free organ recital in the cathedral. The organ there is the largest in the world.
Otherwise just wander about and maybe pass by the town hall beside the river to see the marks on the wall which tell you how high the floods over the year have reached. Theres also an impressive view over the town from up the hill on the other side of the river from the town hall.

Freaky, am just planning a trip to go there on sunday myself! Any more tips useful!
Thanks

it's a really pretty old town - just wander around and soak up the atmosphere
it's a student town so there a few nice bars there
l'd defo recommend doing the boat trip on the danube and inn (it's supposed to be the only place in the world where 3 rivers meet, can't remember the name of the 3rd one)
also you can do a bike trip down the paths next to the danube if you have more time
also, there's a schloss overlooking the town and so you get great views from there though it's a bit of a trek hiking up to the top
hope you have a good trip

I agree with exquitius! Cathedral has beautifully painted ceiling and is white inside - nice and bright in comparison with the usual dark and dingy ornately decorated catholic churches. The view from the hilltop is excellent too. Just a nice old city to wander around. Would love to go again sometime myself. Last time I had the idea was the summer of the massive flooding so needless to say it never came to fruition!

as is often the case, best way to find info on a german town is to type in the name of the town into your web browser, plus ".de" of course. Often feck all info in english though.
