I'm interested in adopting a small to mid sized dog but have NO clue where to even start once I move to Germany. Does anyone have some currently knowledge about how this works?
Also, I heard there is a dog tax, what is this and how much is it?

Can't help you as to where to adopt as I brought my German Shepherd along with me from the States, but there definitely is a dog tax and it's 120 EUR/year. One other thing to be mindful of about getting a dog, when searching for an apartment first make sure that it's alright with the management. Ours didn't have a problem with it, but we had to first get the approval from all of our new neighbors. We got approval from all of our neighbors but one, who actually shut the door in our face. She's an elderly woman and seemed timid and scared, when we told the management this they said "no problem" and that they would send a social worker out to talk to her.
