I'm typing this from Oberpfaffenhofen. I'm surrounded by farms and lakes. The air stinks and my allergies are twice as bad as when I'm in Munich. Country? Meh.

We often drink milk straight from the cow. Tastes like nothing from
Tengelmann.

but to be able to live (and literally survive) in the 'country' you have to be a very religious Catholic (bordering on fanaticism), speak an alien language (Bavarian), put up with very strong manure (the liquid stuff is the killer), eat Weisswurst before noon, and vote your soul away to a man named
Stoiber. Plus, the final blow is that you must support the evil FC Bayern München.

hahah! Like that one Timmeh!
Reason is the poorer environmental quality when you have a family. Less stress, neighbours who are friendlier, just generally more chilled out atmos. And stars you can actually see. As in thousands of them.
Hey I do not need to justify anything. Simply get on the train or drive in Bavaria's countryside. Cycle through Jachenau for example which is unbelievably beautiful this time of year.
Country Bavaria is beautiful.

Not in Holzkirchen. Very international. Half of family Munich is out there.

yep I understand that completely and thats why I love living in the country - just don't see why you need to have a family to justify that. I've always loved living in the countryside - kids or no kids

You're darn right there! But the smell..
Personal choice I guess, personally I prefer living in the country, or at least a small city, probably because thats what I am used to. A "big" city like munich is a bit too hectic for me, too many people rushing around alot overwhelms me a bit, oh and that reflects my personality too, I am a bit more chilled out. Whereas other people get off on energy and charging around etc. Different horses.
Oh and you do notice a difference with the air in munich, after a day in munich I have a funny taste in my throat and stingy eyes etc and heaps of dark snot than I do when I spend a day in the country for example.

Living in a small town on the coast, nothing better.
Salty sea breezes, smell of fresh pastures behind you. Winters on the coast also mean log fires. Eucalyptus leaf in the billy, the sound of a few cows mooing over the top of the waves crashing...

Yeah, I really miss the sea/ocean here... Then again, I've lived in San Fran and Stockholm, both places almost completely surrounded by water, so I guess I'm spoiled.

Yup, change the words billy & Eucalyptus for something Kiwi and I know exactly where you're coming from

What I wouldn't give to live on one of those tiy Islands as you come out of the Stockholm harbour - they seem so cool! get a little dingy and head to the 'mainland' a couple of times a week for food and wood! Just watch out for those mega ferries to Finland...

I am a country girl through and through. We are moving south at the end of the month and i can't wait to wake up and go for a ride, walk in the forest, head to Steinsee before the crowds, sit in the garden watching the village all go to church and frown at the heathens ;-)
I grew up in a small seaside town and miss the peace and quiet of that. Cities are hectic and noisy for us country folks.

My whole flat smells of shit by now. I had to close the windows although it is such a beautiful day. Does anybody else have this problem or am I just living in a bad part of town. To be precise, it does not smell of shit but of artificial fertiliser. I am nauseous by now. Barf.

I can't open my beautiful, large windows.

Outside I see the beautiful colourful autumn leaves, the green grass and the trees of the
English Garden. But lo! As soon as I seek to catch a breath of fresh air, that putrid smell fills my humble abode. To answer your question, yes, most emphatically yes.

maybe you should move to a less humble abode where smells like that aren't

I agree that the quality of life seems pretty good. However, maybe I'm biased as I have been off the leash for the last 4 weeks so it's like being 21 again...

Alas! My empty wallet does not allow me to move yet again. The German moving companies have earned mega bucks on me already. So, Munich isn't capped with a big glass sphere enclosing putrid farming smells? You people can enjoy clean air in other parts of town?
Edit: @Lassie
Aye, fake shit it is young one. Fake shit.

It doesn't smell that bad - I was out cycling and had the farmer accidentally spray me in it
To be fair though the smell is coming into our office too and it is rather putrid today.

did he mean that it gave your lungs a rest because you couldn't stand to breathe?
(of course it isn't that bad - it could be worse. could be a 10 year old corporate pig farm in a blazing hot Nebraska summer)
