Race and dating

Your thoughts on the elephant in the room

Hazza
Do you think that non-white women are interested in you?
What all of them? I'm pretty sure that some are and some aren't. I frankly don't worry enough about who is what race to really give a shit...

You really should visit the US bro, if you think white culture is American culture. Then hell, why bother even respecting or learning another "American" culture? I guess you guys are all doing us a favor by learning black culture, or Latino culture, etc, since white culture is all you really need to understand America. Phh... you're full of it man. What do you call American Pop(pular) culture? Turn on American TV and you'll see hip hop, Latino cooking, Jewish movie stars, Soap Opera's en espanol, etc. The weak and lazy people are the ones who look at Hollywood movies as the truth to American culture, who will watch a movie and think that America is really like that. Like Dessa said, you really need to get out more.
So 8 trips isn't enough then? Say what you want, but American mainstream culture is based on a European ("white") culture. Obviously with that many migrants from so many countries, there is some deviation. However, there is a reason that Europe, the US, Canada and Australia all have what's known as a "western culture".

Quick quiz. The way of life in the US is most similar to:

a. An African country
b. A country on the Indian subcontinent
c. A South east Asian country
d. A South American country
e. A middle eastern country
f. A European country
g. Antarctica

There are 38 pages on this now and I am no wiser. What the point?
This is one of the most circular threads I've ever read on TT.

Cuz you're in Germany. Time for Birkenstocks!

I think we are the only ones staying on topic. I too noticed that very tall black men only seemed to care about my height initially... it would be later that the trouble would start over discussions about race, SIGH. They seemed to be uncomfortable with the stares. Then there were the family issues... my sister finally lost it when I dated a guy from Nigeria. Boy, was he clingy... that didn't last long.
lol gotcha ;)Birkenstocks are the debil!

There are tons of black men/white women marriages here. It seems to be common in the military community, though.

Did you deal with family issues from the black guys' family or your own? I dealt with it from my own family, initially, too. Now all my parents care about i my happiness (as cliche as that sounds).

My brother married a white British girl. She doesn't take any shit from him, she's smart and cute. Her skin clor doesn't matter one bit to me.

Just throw this into the ring. Realistically some on the thread are mainly talking about blacks with whites. Why is there so much black guy boffing white girl porn?

How do you know this?

More than one tab on firefox.

America or "American" is a single culture comprised of many sub-cultures. The tie that binds it all together is the principle of everyone's [sub-]culture should be equally respected and valued in contribution to the American culture.
Are you intentionally goading Hazza. I don't agree with a lot of what is being posted, but I do respect their views and opinions. I respect you for having the courage and conviction to explore this topic, but you will limit the outcome if you remain singular in argument. You may believe these posts are proving your points, but I don't think anyone else agrees with you. Expand your argument, beyond the obvious.
You're right...my main problem here is that I think that it's wrong for people look to look for racism and pull the racist card for this particular issue. There is so much more racism that is so much more damaging and I think that making that call here devalues real instances of racism.

I still believe the underlying theme of most of the posts still skirts the issue of why and how we've come to our views and opinions. Our developmental pedigree is what we should be discussing if we want to get at why we choose to be attracted or not attracted to certain people over others.
I think there are already quite a few theories amongst the experts regarding who or what we're attracted to - and I don't think they come to anything resembling a consensus. So what hope do we have here??

LOL, ok. Keep thinking American culture and "white" culture are synonymous. Do yourself a favor and keep that to yourself on your 9th trip ok?

Getting back to the original subject, why would a girl really even bother with dating a non-white person then, if, by your estimate, white culture is the most comfortable and popular to us Americans? Are they doing us all a favor? Are they that mesmerized by black/Latino/Asian culture? Do we trick them? LOL.

Or, could it be, that most female daters are influenced by what they see on TV, stereotypes and all, and most have living in "white" communities have never even met black guys who some of them have probably already deemed unworthy before meeting? Ok that's a stretch, but not impossible.

The Nigerian's family wasn't phased by me one bit. I didn't get the chance to meet everyone's family... I tended to end up with the player types.

As to my sister, I was disappointed to learn that she had apparently been a little closet racist all these years. My Dad (RIP) could have cared less, but my mother has issues. Mormons have a history of racism, something they are trying to get past.

My BIL is from Liverpool, my SIL is from Japan, my hubby is from Hamburg... but the other SIL is a Yank. We're very international.

Did I say they were synomomous??

I said that US culture is [size=24]BASED ON European culture

EDIT: You never answered my one quiz question either. Was the question too hard??

It's g, isn't it . . . no polar bears in the wild? Is there a prize for answering correctly . . . If so, I'd like a cookie . . . a black & white cookie.

I tended to end up with the player types.
That sucks. So have you ever been with black guy who wasn't a player?
mlovett
In college (long ago!), for a little while... and the clingy Nigerian. The players were fun, but it gets old after a while. Then this VERY serious German guy came along... I guess it was sort of refreshing. But boy, I wish he would crack a few jokes once in a while!

i went to a predominantly white college and the last thing my father said on my way out of the door on the first day was, "Don't bring home no white babies." I think that piqued my interest in men of different races! If he wasn't so big and strong I would've punched him! He my loves children and adores my husband. I think he came around to the fact that I was going to date whoever the fuck I wanted to.

My mother used call all east asians chinese and all latino mexicans. That annoyed the hell out of me! She's getting better now..

That's a loaded question is what it is. American culture has been a collage of cultures from the beginning. From the cuisine to the music to the architecture, it's been a mix. All you probably see is the European culture though. But what most Americans know and most armchair European politiks don't, is that you can't get a full grasp of the states unless you live there.
