Race and dating

Your thoughts on the elephant in the room

Hazza
Like genetic mutations, i.e. people from my same bloodline, or environmental factors, i.e. people from my part of the world.
Aha...And what part of the world would that be? That part would make you the SAME as white USians, wouldn't it? So it's ONLY the physical attributes that vary...

People of the same bloodline and part of the world living in the same community wanting to get together exclusively is one thing, but living in a multi-racial community and refusing other people based on the stereotype of their phenotype is another. Also, most people of a all phenotypes having preference for a particular phenotype makes an intelligent person ask why.
As everyone here agrees on - it's a perception thing. You are yet to demonstrate how continually bringing it up and going on about it does anything to erase that perception. Nor have you debunked my idea that not paying any attention to our differences makes us notice them less than your style of continually drawing attention to race.

And since no one can, I guess we should just stop it right? Stop pushing your agenda!
What agenda?

Not enough of a big deal to base my dating decisions on
Obviously so. In your own words it's "awesome" to date other races. Does that mean it's less "awesome" to date within your race?

probably because people like you keep re-inforcing stereotypes by continually banging on about them.
flint24
Probably not.
Owain Glyndwr
wow, that is a compelling argument! I may just be forced to change my opinion.
UrbanAngel
I agree with Hazza!
Pas
You don't talk to him either as you're boffing all the time?
perdido
I agree with Hazza!
I agree with urbanangel, but that might be the white person in me talking.
Keydeck
I suspect it's just the the bloke in you. I agree with her all the time regardless of what she says just because she's that awesome!
don_riina
Yeah, I agree with Keydeck.
UrbanAngel
Pas - that's the one

Whatever part of the world you're from. I think that in terms of genetic backgrounds most people don't see themselves in the view of the "world community" yet and usually look at the world from the perspective of their own community.

What's the "perception" that cause 70% of the people to take the IAT to have a positive preference for white faces and a negative preference for black faces?

Before the test, a lot of people didn't think they were racist, or at least didn't think they make decisions like who they date based on race. The test (IAT and Columbia Uni test), and talking about the test (race), showed them otherwise. That's how it helps

I've yet to find a study on it (yet ) but I've said how in my personal opinion, ignoring my race doesn't stop the race questions, and doesn't stop the racial preferences when dating. Being the only black guy at a country bar, and not drawing attention to your blackness, will not prevent the fact the you're the only one there, and that it's statistically harder for you in this situation than if you were at, say, a hip hop club and not the only black person there. For example.

Obviously so. In your own words it's "awesome" to date other races. Does that mean it's less "awesome" to date within your race?
It means whatever you want it to mean.
UrbanAngel
I'd say it'd be statistically easier since statistics have proven that the more you stick out, the more likely people will notice and approach you. This is from the same statistical study as yours.
flint24
Really? That's not been my experience. Again, which country are you talking about? I've been in some countries in eastern Europe where it was a BAD thing to stick out, while in other countries in western Europe where it was a good thing.
flint24
wow, that is a compelling argument! I may just be forced to change my opinion.
Isn't it convenient for a person who doesn't experience racial discrimination when dating to ask people that do why they talk about it so much

if you look up, flint, you might just see the point flying over your head.
